/CRASH!/
" I thought you said you complied and organized all the documents, Emily?"
" I did. These all require your signature to become official."
" Well at least this is all of i-"
" After we finish all of the business permits, we'll have to work on the housing permits as well!"
" ... I'll make him pay for this..."
" What was that, Matthew?"
" Nothing... Just thinking about people who commit regicide. It's even more prevalent in history than I originally thought."
" Yes. indeed, it is. There's been many Kings that have become drunk off of their power throughout history. From King Aster the 2nd in Promethia to even King Juden from Kuga. No monarch is truly free from the chance of being consumed by the power their authority gifts them. There's been even more nobles that have succumbed to the temptation their power provides. Though something ironic is that their deaths are more often than not, conducted by their subordinates or even their own kin. The ones that they trust the most."
" Well, just let me know if I ever end up acting like that, I'd rather not end up with you or Ruby stabbing me one day while I was doing paperwork... Though looking at this stack of paper..."
I woke up bright and early to get a head start on my work that's piled up over these past 6 weeks. After sneaking out of the bed so as to not disturb Sarah and Anna, I entered my office, still in my pajamas, only to be met with Emily and Ruby already working. When I apologized for appearing in my pajamas and said I would go change, Ruby with a strange glimmer in her eyes, vigorously asked me to stay as I was. Since I felt somewhat bad about all the work they've had to do during these past 6 weeks, I decided to do as Ruby asked. She wore a very interesting smile on her face as I agreed to do what she asked... It was almost like she was hiding something from me. I wasn't able to focus on her too much as Emily slammed a pile of paperwork on my desk that was so heavy it made an audible sound as it hit my desk with force.
" Now, now... Don't be silly, Matthew, I'd forcibly chase you down and make you work from the grave since I've gone to the trouble of compiling all of it after all!"
Emily's lips were smiling at me, but her eyes weren't. I guess doing all of the compiling work was really annoying for her. I guess I need to give it my best as well. Though with these 2 in the room, I can't help but wonder what they're going to ask me for? I wonder if time off or a nicer house with some land would do?
" Well, I guess I should get started."
With my words, I started to focus. Emily began to do some work as well and Ruby seemed to be staring at me until she accidentally fell asleep. With the sound of Ruby's light snores, time began to pass. In time, the first stack of papers disappeared. With them gone, a new annoyance was found.
/GYUUUU!/
/CRASH!/
A sound filled the room as Emily brought me the next big stack of paperwork I had to look over. I look at Emily for a moment and she blushes red at me and speaks quietly, rather from shyness or to not wake Ruby.
" That wasn't me?"
" I... I know... That was me, Emily. I haven't eaten anything since last night. Also, I could really use a drink. Outside of a quick gulping of water after I finished brushing my teeth, I haven't drunk anything either."
" Well... I only had a small salad for breakfast today..."
I looked at the clock on the wall and saw that it was already 10am. I figure now would be a good time for some breakfast. My eyes drift over to see Ruby with a bit of drool coming from her mouth as she quietly mumbles to herself from her dream.
