Chapter 260. Sarah Stokes A Fire

" Another over here!"

" 2 incoming here!"

Voices yelled out one after the other, it's been an hour since Anna and I first defeated the initial bonded one that we burned by striking our weapons together. Since then, the people of Zana followed my orders and have arrived to us. Somehow, someway, John has increased the Barrier's size to accommodate the influx of survivors. Thankfully, most of the Demons that have joined us brought makeshift torches, so we now have a massive bonfire in the middle of the Barrier that we're using to burn any of the enemies that the floating bastard has created.

" 4 over here!"

Since the arrival of around a hundred Demons, a system has been worked out, I fan the flames with some of my wind magic to keep them hot and burning, Anna uses her abilities as a Druid to keep adding fuel to the fire by summoning plants and small trees. The Demons, who are here, are used as the fighting force of the Barrier. So far, it's only been commoners and a few knight families. I would hope that the Count families are still on our side, but who's to say for sure now?

" 6 over here!"

Perhaps it wasn't a good thing to command all of the survivors to gather here? Since they've arrived there's been an increase in those plant infested Demons coming towards us. Maybe it's due to the giant fire we have going? Maybe it's the fact that the people are here? Maybe they heard my message and decided to converge on us? Maybe others who heard the message were then transformed and then the information was leaked, but if any of those last 2 are true... Why hasn't that kidnapping fool come to kill us yet?

" RAGHHH!"

It'd be easier to think without the enemies wailing as the fire cleanses them. With all of the successful defenses of the Barrier, the bodies have begun to pile up. We've taken them and started laying them in a row along with John as he sleeps. What is taking him so long anyways!? He better not be flirting with that Angela woman! I don't care if she is an Angel! I swear I'll-

" HARRGHHH!"

" The 6 over here are through! Thanks, Greg!"

Screams and thanks filled my ears as I continued to nurse this flame, if today was any warmer, I might have worked up a sweat from the heat radiating from the fire, but since tonight was so cold, I only felt a slight warmth from the fire.

" Ah, this feels good..."

Some of the children had sat around the fire after assisting with the handing of torches to the adults who were fighting.

" You're right, Harry. It's nice to have a break like this every now and again. I could take a nap right now, I think."

Now some of the adults were taking a break now that the coast was clear. We were far from done, however. Zana as a medium sized town has a population around 2000, add in the 3-400 of visitors either here as merchants to peddle wares or Noble families here for the birthday and their staff... We've only fought around 300 of the plant bonded Demons... Something is strange... Why aren't there more?

" Dad, when is this going to be over?"

A sleepy boy turned to his father and asked a simple question. Anna and I both looked up to the sky and still saw that monster floating there. He was still holding onto the 3 girls he took.

" I don't know, Harry. All I know is that we're doing the best we can."

The father answered with the truth... At least for the people that had this thing thrust upon them. The group that stayed at the mansion that recently blew up knew most of the situation, we were just missing the final piece of the puzzle. What the hell were we fighting exactly? Obviously, it's a God we're fighting. The ritualistic sacrifices obviously confirm it, but what God is the hundred large platinum coins question. With no answers in sight, Anna and I can only wait for John to wake up so we can launch another attack. Maybe we can also make use of the small militia that we've formed? Time will tell.
