Chapter 316. Partnerships Between Nobles

" So, because I'm the Higher-Ranked Noble, they technically have to follow my suggestion?"

" Yes, Darling."

" Anna and I felt it would be better for you to see their reactions rather than tell you that your approach was wrong... Also, we felt some laughter would be nice."

After Byron and Lady Cindy stopped laughing, Sarah and Anna explained to me that more or less, because I'm a Marquess and they're both just children of a Count at this point and acting as the " temporary" leaders, that I more or less can just bulldoze through with what I wanted to do. So, asking them for permission is kind of like asking for someone's wallet in a nice way while I pull the hammer back on the gun I'm pointing at them.

" You look like you're beginning to understand, My Love. While they're laughing now, that's because they both understand that you're not trying to be rude and trying to help. Following proper decorum is important to follow as a Marquess, it's the 2nd Highest Noble Rank a person can achieve. You need to remember this when we're outside of our own home, My Love. Make sure to reflect on this later."

" Yes, Ma'am."

" Good."

This was a somewhat nostalgic situation, back when I was learning under Warrick's guidance about how to govern, Aqua and Sarah would teach me manners and proper decorum. I haven't really seen this side of hers in a while, she would strictly teach me along with Aqua until I got everything from the lesson right. After Aqua felt I was good enough to pass most social situations, I asked Sarah and Anna to let me know if I ever did something wrong and to scold me about it, seems I got my wish. All I could do was agree with her since she's the one who's most knowledgeable about all of this and she's obviously right about it. Just like I asked her to do. Granted it does sting somewhat, since I wasn't warned about something like this while Aqua was teaching me... Did she want to play a prank on me? Or is it that she'd never actually been in a situation like this? I can't really tell. While I was thinking about all of this, Princess Alice's voice reached my ears.

" So, you are strict with him after all?"

Princess Alice seemed surprised by Sarah's attitude with me, now that I think about it, this is the first time that Sarah had seriously scolded me in front of her. This was already a normal sight for Anna to see after we got married. The siblings just seemed to be enjoying the show at this point. Sarah turned her head to answer Princess Alice's question.

" Of course we are, Alle. Anna and I just haven't needed to scold him for a while since we both haven't really found anything that he's done that's actually disagreeable to us. One of our many goals in life after all is to enjoy our married life, as High-Ranking Nobles that means we must act with properly around other Nobles to not affect us in the long run. He's actually the one who wanted us to be especially strict with him when it comes to moments like this. So, in the end, we're just doing as Our Husband wished of us. Isn't that right, Anna?"

Anna nodded to Sarah's question and Princess Alice seemed to understand something from her words, what that was, I had no clue.

" Putting what you've decided to do in case you make a faux pas aside, you know there is a way for you to be able to help us without the townspeople thinking that you're walking all over us as a Marquess, right?"

" I was getting to that, I wanted to use this as a learning moment however."

Byron spoke to me, but Sarah answered his question before I could even give him an answer. It looks like Sarah wanted me to really sit and ruminate on my scolding. Now she's ready to give me an answer to my situation.

" You can form a partnership together as Nobles."

" Partnership?"

" Yes, it's a contract that you sign that basically shows that a High-Ranked Noble isn't attempting to exert their influence on a Lower-Ranking Noble, it'll ensure to the people that you're working together as equals and as a team."
