Kingston Secondary, Singapore.
"Hey Ryan, I got a video to show you, trust me, it's hilarious." Joel said to ryan.
"For the last time, I don't find stupid try not to laugh videos funny anymore Joel." Ryan sighed.
"Fine, you're missing out." Joel said, as he continued to watch his video, laughing by himself.
Soon, the school bell rang and the two went off to assembly.
After assembly, got back to class.
"Okay, open your textbooks to page fifty two. We're doing trigonometry today." The math teacher, Mr. Lim, said in an annoying tone.
The class, though supposedly the one with a highest scores when entering this school right after primary, was a problematic class that had several cases of cheating in a single year already.
Joel lazed about at the back of the class, not caring about learning any maths for the day.
Staring lazily at his companion, Jason, one of the class' troublemakers, using his phone to play a popular mobile game, Joel asked,"You winning?"
"Yeah, got a good starting hand. If I play my cards right, I'm guaranteed a win."
"...And you lost."
"What the fuc-"
"You said you had a good hand Jason." Joel said amusedly.
"Hacks. I call hacks. That guy was definitely hacking."
"Mhm. Yeah sure. Keep telling yourself that." Joel replied sarcastically.
"Shouldn't you, being the good little boy that you are, focus on learning from mister big shot maths teacher over there?" Jason asks irritatedly.
"Nah, i'd much rather laze around on my lazy ass and use my phone but I have a reputation to uphold and a phone I don't want possibly confiscated so in the mean time, i'll just watch you."
"God you're annoying."
"I've been told that many times. I never understood it, i'm not annoying, i'm Joel."
"Stop with the bad jokes, please. You're internally killing me."
"Alright, alright..."
Their banter continued for most of the lesson, usually trading witty remarks and throwing insults at one another, giving zero consideration for the lesson.
"Hey...You ever wonder what it's like to have magic powers?"
"I'm sorry what?"
"You know...What if we had powers like a superhero...Would it cloud our morality? Since we would be invincible, would we still abide by the rules?"
"I don't know, why would you think that? Are you high or something right now?"
"Forget it man, forget I ever brought it up."
August 1st, 20XX, life was as per normal.
Everything ran smoothly, Trump was out of office and North Korea decided to stop with the nuclear warhead production.
In retrospect, it was one of the best cases scenario.
A world war narrowly avoided and life went on.
On this peculiar day, on a peculiar morning, during an ongoing maths lesson, something happened.
Something...world-shaking.
Just as lesson proceeded, a golden glow appeared in the shape of a circle appeared out of nowhere.
It went unnoticed right until the glow became resplendent enough to attract attention.
