"They're fine...Probably unstable due to the fighting. They haven't taken the life of a person before this." The healer answered,"Now if you'll excuse me, I have more people needing treatment."
She left hastily, running out the room.
Ryan opened his eyes to see many worried looks on his friends' faces,"Guys?...What's wrong?..."
Lucas breathed a sigh of relief,"Thank god you're safe...What happened out there?"
Ryan thought back to minutes ago and immediately felt bile in his mouth again.
Running to the bucket, he emptied out what was left of his breakfast and sat miserably on the floor.
"This is...I can't...I can't kill...I've taken another man's life...I-I'm a monster..." Ryan muttered, curling up into a ball as he remembered how the eyes of his victims stared right through his very soul.
The eyes.
They pierced him like an invisible arrow through his mind, causing him to shake uncontrollably.
Whenever he closed his eyes, he would see those eyes staring back at him from the abyss, haunting whispers and cries of pain rang in his ears.
"No...No. No. No. No. NO! G-go away! G-get away from me! Forgive me! I'm sorry!" Ryan screamed as he back into a corner of the room, all eyes falling on him.
"R-Ryan?" Garry asked quietly, as if uncertain whether this person was even Ryan anymore.
Brooks sighed,"For fu*k's sake. He's gone mental. We've lost him. This just~ bloody great. Someone go knock him out and hope for the best."
A soldier ran up to Ryan who curled into a foetal position, trying to make himself as small as possible.
"Sorry sir." The soldier muttered as he hit Ryan on the back of his neck, knocking a Ryan unconscious immediately.
"Men, carry him to the sick ward and get back to your positions. God, I don't get paid enough for dealing with this sh*t. Bring the girl too." Brooks said as she marched out the room.
Everyone was visibly shaken, fearing that they, too, would end up like Ryan.
More worrying was the fact that Jason and Madeline hadn't return yet.
With jittery legs, they anxiously went to their respective companies and awaited to rush out.
In a few hours, the first group retreated, Jason and Madeline came back with weathered looks and weary eyes but managed to get back before collapsing from mental exhaustion.
"We'll head out soon...Remember...Run if you have to...Your own life is the top priority." Lucas chided May.
"I'm not a kid Lucas. I can take care of myself pretty well." May rolled her eyes, sarcastically remarking to play off her nervousness.
"Alright, alright. Just be careful out there."
"Second wave! Push!"
The order came and the second wave ran out, like a blanket that covered the flat ground, Lucas Aran alongside May, easily surpassing soldiers as they made it to the front at a breezy speed of a eighty kilometres per hour.
