"Joel! Are you okay? Joel?" Joel heard an anxious voice at the back of his head.
He felt like his consciousness was being dragged out from the deepest depths of the ocean where only darkness and death lay.
It was like a hand was covering him, shielding him from everything bad in the world, saving him.
Joel's eyes blinked repeatedly as he tried to get used to the light,"Mia?...What's going on?..."
Mia buried her face into Joel's abdomen, her tiny frame quaking,"You didn't die...You didn't die..."
"I didn't wha-?" Joel was confused for a moment before all his memories flooded back.
His face grew white.
He knew, he had died.
So how...Was he back?
Then, a voice popped into his head,"Listen up lil' boy. That girlie there just killed half her lifetime to save you. You better treasure what's she's given up for you. Hopefully, you won't fu*k this up anymore than you already have. And, treat her better when you get out okay?"
Joel stared at Mia's quaking body, he felt moved, touched that someone would be willing to sacrifice their life to save another.
"Mia I-" Joel was at a loss for words.
Whatever he felt, he couldn't relay properly.
He felt as if his words would not be able to show how much gratitude and thankfulness he felt towards Mia.
So, he did the next best thing.
Grabbing Mia by the shoulders, Joel looked Mia right in her blue irises,"Mia...In my world, people say actions speak louder than words...So...No matter what I do now...I will be forever indebted to you...For saving a useless man like me...I-" Joel felt choked up, he felt warm and fuzzy inside.
"I'll prove that I'm grateful...I'll prove that I-" Joel was hushed by Mia's finger.
"No words...Just...Hold me..." Mia whispered as she snuggled up to Joel.
Joel nodded and held Mia closer.
Taking a whiff, he smelt lavender,"Lavender...Fragrant..."
Mia was content.
No, she was overjoyed.
Joel was back, he had found the one.
And so had she.
---------
Twenty days later.
"Mia, I think Ari's found it. There's apparently one of those divine armaments here that's an eye. It'll fill the one I'm missing." Joel said, his voice rough, cold even.
"Nn. Let's go find it." Mia replied, holding [Green Jewel].
Over the past twenty days, Joel and Mia had spent their days fighting and getting stronger.
Joel had seen death and ferocity far above that of the now seemingly weak Devouring rabbit.
His once happy, class-clownish personality had been stripped away, a colder, much more cynical attitude had taken form.
To Joel, as long as Mia was fine, everything else was secondary, vice versa with Mia.
Joel's previously weak body had drastically transformed, muscles had taken shape and his body was looking less sickly.
They had fought together in many fights, evident from the many scars Joel bared on his body.
However, with the extremely weird mechanics behind him absorbing the 'Power and data' from the divine armaments he held, levelling up was too easy.
Currently, he was at level ten thousand.
Upon reaching the place where Ari mentioned the eye was located, they came across a tiger.
Mia yawned,"I'll take care of this...[Firestorm]."
A spiral of fire shot from Mia's hand and onto the tiger, burning it's body without chance for retaliation.
The tiger flopped to the floor helplessly and Joel stabbed it in its abdomen without hesitancy.
Afterwards, they reached the eye.
Holding it in his hand, Joel activated Ari.
[Eye of Providence. Data is being downloaded. It is an armament made from the legendary aptly named All-Seer. If worn, user will be able to see through falsifications and magic up to a certain extent. Strength has increased exponentially. Affinity to demonic has reached maximum. Affinity to darkness has reached maximum.]
Joel grinned as he popped the armament into his empty socket.
A small sting was felt but the pain was almost insignificant when compared to what he had been through in the past twenty days.
A small 'click' sound was heard and Joel felt his eyesight in his lost eye returning to him.
"Damn. Not bad. Not bad at all~" Joe, whistled, impressed by the miraculous items within the cavern.
He had long since accepted the fact that Belle was a god and he was an Apostle.
[Skills unlocked. [Piercing Stare]. [Truth]. Passive armament magic allows user to look through magic makeup. Alert. The exit to the Trial by Fire is directly in front. Please hold.]
Joel turned to Mia, a weathered grin on his face,"We've made it out Mia...We're finally heading out..."
Mia smiled in content and stood next to Joel, holding his arm possessively once again.
[Exit found. Two processes to be made according to creator. Please pick clothing for yourself and female companion. Will automatically replace old clothing. Make a thought and confirm to receive clothing.]
Joel nodded to himself and told Mia what she had to do, Mia replied with an 'Okay'.
Joel imagined himself in a lightweight suit of Armour that covered his body, in the shape of a suit.
And so, Joel found himself in new clothes that felt as if they were made for him.
Mia's body flashed for a moment before her dirty dress turned into another blue one, just like the one before.
[Process one complete. Final step. From this moment on, you are an official Apostle of master and supreme goddess, Belle Trinity. You must abide by the following rules. The apostle will follow all the goddess' requests accordingly without fail. The apostle will carry out what the goddess wishes regardless of morality. The apostle must give up all power when he or she wishes to forfeit their position. Failure to comply will lead to an indefinite amount of time of torture in the abyss. If a minor offence is committed for example, doing something the goddess deems wrong, power will be lost for an indefinite amount of time. If death occurs within then, position will be revoked.]
Joel shivered, the cold monotonous voice of Ari said words with a certain sharpness within that made him feel provoked unlike these obviously more dangerous beasts.
Joel nodded easily.
[You are officially deemed Apostle of Belle Trinity, Goddess of the World. Please exercise restraint. Be on the lookout for the special person you are supposed to protect. For the first few months, you will be given free time to adjust. Thank you. Ari is going offline. Power to absorb will be online again once special person is located. Goodbye.]
Joel laughed,"We're finally going outside! Haha! Let's have some fun when we get out okay?"
Mia giggled,"Nn!"
A white light engulfed both their figures and they popped out of the dungeon and into the outside world once more.
After three weeks of disappearance, Joel Winters was back.
And he was back with a bang.
