"This is it huh?" Ryan asked.
"It's okay everyone. I'll make sure we'll all make it though this and get back to earth alive!" Lucas said, raising everyone's spirits, giving them a sense of revitalisation, like a new lease on life.
"Yeah. We'll make it through this everyone!" Madeline supported Lucas, smiling even though she was truly scared inside.
They were currently on the north frontlines, the place where the most intense crowd of enemies lay siege to the walls.
They were sent out by the king, alongside many other troops with the following instructions.
'Hold out for five months. Do whatever you need to hold out for that long. After that, resistance'll sweep the remainder no matter how many are left.'
They were currently residing in fort Galdence, a weather place that had seen many fights.
"Soldiers. This is war. The bulk of us here are what others call elites. People over level three hundred. But remember, there are under thirty of us here and hundred of thousands of bastards out there. We've been told to hold out for five months for resistance. Now remember. We don't have super elites with us. No one here's above five hundred besides us three. You might be able to take out a good ten thousand individually but every death will lead to morale dropping." Cade spoke grimly.
"Cade's right. We need to act together. One for all, all for one. We must show no mercy, got it? You new troops, princess Roost might call you heroes but you're just newbies here. This ain't training like that Matthew showed you. This is a fight for you life. You see that Valencia girl? That's what we need." Brooks continued, adding on to his words.
"Alright, alright enough of looking so down! In times like this, we need to stay optimistic! Right, i'll start with the spreading out...of who leads who. For you elites, you'll be split into groups of two, one will have three. For the rest..." Aaron spoke in a tone too unbefitting of a person about to head to war.
So the arrangement went as such:
Cheryl with Ryan, Jason with Madeline, Lucas with May and Garry, Angeline with Alex.
They were split respectively and put under the command of different companies.
Ryan met up with Cheryl, a quiet but hardworking girl.
"Take care of the girls guys. We're men after all!" Lucas joked casually, but his serious undertone was caught by the group.
They laughed lightly, taking note of his weariness.
He was one boy, not even seventeen yet.
He knew he couldn't protect everyone but he would try.
That was the very least he could do.
"We'll be okay. Just hold out is all right?" Ryan comforted Cheryl, checking his gear.
Cheryl nodded,"Yeah...We'll be safe after this..."
They knew the risks.
Without Gracie or any of the super elites watching over them, death could strike at any moment without them even realising it.
"We're both mages. We don't have high endurance but we hit hard. I think the best method would be to watch each other's sixth." Ryan provided a feasible solution.
"Nn. We will do as you suggested." Cheryl agreed.
"Hey you two! Hurry up! We're heading out in an hour!" Their company leader shouted.
"Coming!" Ryan shouted, turning to the apprehensive Cheryl, he encouraged her,"C'mon, it'll be okay."
"O-okay..." Cheryl nodded and followed behind him.
