You and Johnny were the best of friends. You two were each other's right hand man. But of course, you couldn't help but fall in love with Johnny. I mean, how could you not. You could go on and on about your feelings for him and you doubt you ever tell him...or you might rip off the bandaid during the upcoming roadtrip.

That's right, you and Johnny are going a roadtrip! You two, along with your friend group, are doing your yearly roadtrip. Although this tradition is fairly recent, these change each and every time. Pairs that started as friends at the beginning of the journey became a couple by the end. All of your friends knew about your crush on Johnny and they were going to help you two be alone so you can confess.

On the drive, you all reminisced on old memories and sang along to the songs on the radio as well as whoever had the aux cord. You were in the passenger seat and Johnny was in the driver's seat. You two had a special song that you two would do a duet to and it played through the car's speakers.

"Johnny! It's our song!"

"Time to give our friends a show, babe."

You were definitely surprised by the pet name but you sang with Johnny. Your friends cheered you on but their cheers turned into background noise as you were solely focused on Johnny and the song. It felt like you were in your own little world with him and this was a feeling you could get used to.

The sun was setting and you all were getting hungry so you decided to make a stop for the night. It was perfect: there was a motel for you all to crash for the night, a diner down the street and the beach right across the street. He parked in the motel parking lot and all of you got the car, strecthing your limbs and immediately ran to the beach. You stayed up on the pier, watching your friends down below. You do a head count and realize that Johnny isn't with them. As if on cue, he appears next to you.

"What are you thinking about?"

"Oh, Johnny you scared me. I was wondering where you went."

"Just had to make sure the car was locked and that I had my wallet."

"A practical man, expected as usual."

"They do say I am husband material after all so I have to live up to my title."

"You're doing a great job with that."

"Why thank you, ___." He sent an obnoxious wink your way and you laughed, slightly pushing him away. He clutched his chest and held onto the beam of the pier, acting like he was truly hurt.

"Johnny, that didn't even hurt."

"You don't know my pain!" He said with a laugh, giving up his act.

You two watched the view, basking in its beauty. You figured this would be the best opportunity to do it while you're away from the rest of the group.

"Johnny, can I...uh, tell you something?"

"Of course. Why do you sound nervous?"

"Well I-, it's because...I like you."

"You like me? We wouldn't be friends with me if you didn't."

"True but I was saying that I LIKE like you, as in having a crush."

"Oh."

You try to read his face, and you see the wheels turning in his head. In that moment, you knew he was trying to find a way to let you down in the nicest way possible.

"You don't feel the same way, don't you?"

He shook his head no, looking down.

"I'm sorry I can't reciprocate your feelings."

"Hey, don't worry about it. I'm just glad that I finally told you."

Johnny was about to speak when you hear your friends down on the sand call out your names. They say that they're hungry so you all head to diner. You all squeeze into a booth and while everyone is eating, Johnny stepped outside as he got a phone call. Everyone watched him walk out and then it was all eyes on you.

"So? Did you tell him?" One of your friends asked.

You nodded.

"And?" Everyone asked in unison.

"He doesn't feel the same."

"Should we have to fight him for you? I think we should-" Another friend spoke up before you cut them off.

"No one is fighting him. I'll be fine, really."

No one had the chance to comment as Johnny came back into the diner. You all spent the rest of the night laughing away, enjoying the trip. As you went to bed, you did feel a bit sad that he didn't feel the same way but you really hope your confession didn't ruin what you two have.
