You thought the concept of fake dating was something that only happened in media but yet you were about to do that very thing. You see, your family is having their annual barbecue. At the last family event, people kept asking when are you going to start dating and you goofed up by saying that you are, in fact, in a relationship. Everyone insisted that you bring the supposed significant other to the next event and that time has come. You went to ask your best friend, Junhui, if he could help you out.

"Hey Jun, best friend of mine."

"What do you want?"

"I can't show my appreciation for the best boy in the world who would do anything for me because he loves me?"

He looked at you with a straight face, quirking his eyebrow.

"What did you lie about this time?"

"Alright so I kind of told my family that I'm in a relationship at the last outing we had and they expect me to bring them to the barbecue this weekend."

"And you need me why?"

"Why else? To be my fake boyfriend, of course."

"No."

"Jun, please." You start to whine at him.

"It's not going to work."

"How are you so sure?"

"Knowing us, it won't."

"What happened to Mr. 'I'm the best actor that has ever lived' huh?"

"He's still here, just not for you."

You opened your mouth in shock and he laughed at your reaction. He insists that he's only messing with you and that he'll do it.

"You will?"

"You know how much I love your grandmother's sweet potatoes."

You were relieved that he agreed because he knows you really well so you two will be able to pull it off. You then tell him the details of the event and days leading up to the event, you were feeling a bit nervous. There was no denying that Jun was attractive but you were so afraid of how well he will commit to this boyfriend thing. Do you have a crush on him? You don't want to admit it but there is a little crush there.

When the day finally arrived, to say you were nervous was an understatement. Jun has been to some of these events with you but this time is so much different. You looked yourself in the mirror trying to calm yourself down when you hear Jun honking outside. You quickly rush out, grabbing your stuff along the way out and lock the door behind you. You get in the car and you see the bags in the backseat.

"You really thought I was about to come to this without bringing something?"

"But you didn't-"

"I would look like a bad boyfriend if I didn't." He says with a smirk and you roll your eyes, looking away from him to hide that you were starting to blush. On the drive there, you almost forgot about the whole thing until you saw the house in the distance. Jun noticed your growing nerves and reached over to hold your hand. He gave your hand a gentle squeeze, causing you to look over at him.

"Everything will be okay. If at any point you want to leave, just say the word and we'll be out of there in no time."

You nodded, thanking him. You let out a breath before reaching for the car door. He stops you, telling you to stay put before exiting the car and walking around to open the door for you. You teased him by calling him out on his gentleman like behavior and he just laughed it off. After grabbing everything from the back, you two walked to the front door. You rang the doorbell and it was your cousin who answered the door.

"Hey ____! Oh, who is this handsome fellow?"

"Well dear cousin of mine, this is my boyfriend Jun."

"Jun? As in grandma's sweet potato loving Jun?"

"Yep, that's me." Jun speaks up.

"I haven't seen you since you were little! I didn't think you two would be a thing."

"Well, the universe works in mysterious ways." He says while smiling at you. You return the smile and head inside when your cousin moves to the side to let you two in. They tell Jun where to put the food he brought and then you head to the backyard where mainly everyone was.

All eyes were on you two as some people let out gasps. You even heard someone say 'They were actually telling the truth.' Jun stifled a laugh and you nudged him. You both mingled and caught up with your family members. Your baby cousins were interested in Jun so they would ask him to play with him and he happily obliged, pretending to be a fire breathing dragon or a charming prince.

After a while, before you two headed home, your grandmother pulled you aside.

"I was hoping you would bring him here today."

"You were?"

"Of course. I see the way you two look at each other. I wish you two the absolute best. Oh, and here." She hands you a tupperware dish that contains her famous sweet potatoes.

"I know how much he loves them so I made extra just for him."

"Thanks grandma, he's going to be over the moon."

"Anytime honey, you two get home safely."

You bid each other goodbye before finding Jun waiting for you in front of his car. His face lights up when he sees you and you wave up the tub in your hands.

"Grandma loves you so much, she made an extra batch just for you so here."

"I truly love her."

He opens the door for you and you get in the car, waiting for him to go around to his side. While he's driving, you told him what your grandmother said to you.

"Can I be honest with you ___?"

"Of course."

"I actually enjoy this boyfriend thing we did today."

"You did?"

"Yeah. It made me realize that I don't want it to be fake next time around."

"Are you saying..."

"___, be mine? You know, for real this time?"

"Absolutely."
