[Honesty] || Open Choice

You and your partner were laying on the blanket, cloud watching after your outdoor lunch date. You both were trying to figure out the shapes of the clouds. After a while, you two fell into comfortable silence, enjoying each other's company and the weather. Your partner started to get lost in their thoughts and they knew they had to ask you sooner later or else it would eat at them for the rest of the day.

"I have a confession to make." Your partner said out of nowhere.

You turn on your side to face them, giving them your full attention.

"What's up?"

"I'm afraid to fall in love." They muttered softly.

You unconsciously frowned at their statement.

"I mean, what if it's not reciprocated? Then what do I do?" They continued.

"I feel like love is truly a game of patience." You respond.

You are met with silence after your comment and they let out a sigh before speaking up again.

"Can you let me know something?" They ask, looking at you. You nod your head, waiting for their next question.

"I think I'm also afraid to fall in love because what if I dive in deep?"

"Easy, then I come in after you." You said shrugging your shoulders.

They sit up straight and your eyes widen, surprised by the sudden movement.

"Are you serious?"

"Absolutely serious."

"B-but I have b-baggage." They said, still not believing you.

"So do I, it's more common than you think."

They stared at you in disbelief, wondering how you were answering their questions with ease. You then spoke up again to solidify your statement. You sit up and gently hold their hands.

"Listen, I'm not going to force you to fall in love with me. That is something that will happen on its own accord, if it happens that is. If you're afraid because someone has hurt you in the past, I'm truly sorry you had to experience that. I can promise you right here, right now that whatever they did to hurt you I will never do to you."

"Really?" They asked, them starting to get teary eyed.

"Yes because I want you, all of you. All the perfect and imperfect."

"You're not going to go all John Legend on me, are you?" They asked with a chuckle while wiping their tears.

"I mean I can if you want." You said with a smile, raising your eyebrows.

"I think I got the message. I think it might be a little hard for me but I shouldn't be afraid anymore, especially since you're the perfect person to fall for."

You both smiled at one another and gave each other a big hug. You shared a kiss and you two left, heading back home. Now that you answered their worries, you knew your next job wasn't to make them fall in love but to make the fall painless as possible.
