Curiosity truly does kill the cat.
Now let me explain what I mean.

You recently moved to a small town and you've been told that every year around Halloween, people love to talk about the scarecrow.

"Scarecrow? There's a farm in this town?" You ask your neighbor.

"Well...not exactly. It's just an open field and the scarecrow is in the middle of it."

You nod in understanding as they continue.

"Everyone who has tried to awaken him, they never return."

"Awaken him? You sure he's not a mummy or something?"

"I'm so serious. Someome even managed to snag a picture of him." They then pull out their phone and show you the picture. You stare at the picture with a confused expression.

"Are you sure this is that scary scarecrow? Because what I'm seeing is a man with makeup who kinda looks cute."

"____ you are not about to catch feelings for a non living being."

"But I thought you said people go awaken him?" You raise your eyebrow with a smirk.

"You know what..."

"Anyways, how does one awaken this guy?"

"Simple: candy."

"A-are you serious? Candy?"

They nodded their head.

"Not some crazy summoning ritual?"

They shook their head no.

"He must be a simple guy."

"I guess so."

"But if he likes candy, how come no one makes it out alive?"

"Hmm, not sure."

"For a simple man, he's quite picky." You muttered under your breath.

You two sat in a silence for a moment before you break it by saying, "I'm going."

"Where?"

"To the field so I can introduce myself to this scarecrow fellow."

"Are you crazy? That's you practically asking for a death wish."

"No, that's me being on a fake episode of Buzzfeed Unsolved: Supernatural, just without Ryan and Shane."

"____, seriously. Don't go after that candy eating scarecrow. It's for the best."

You stared at them, realizing that they might be right. You let out a sigh of defeat.

"I guess you're right. I mean I just moved here."

"There we go! We can do other activities if you'd like."

You smile at them saying, "That would be nice, yeah."

For the next few days, you've been hanging out with your neighbor and sometimes their friends came along. As it got closer to Halloween, your neighbor came to your door with some news.

"As much as I would love to spend your first Halloween here with you, I have to leave town for a bit."

"Why, is everything okay?"

"Not exactly sure but it's a family thing."

"Ah okay, I hope everything is okay though."

"I hope so too and remember-"

"Yeah, yeah, don't go after the candy eating scarecrow."

"Good. See you!" They patted your head and walked away.
