[Spooky Stories] || Vernon

"What is this myth everyone keeps talking about?"

"I don't know, I just got here." And you meant that quite literally since you just transferred to the university.

"____..." Vernon whines.

"Aren't you the reporter here? This is your job."

"I can't report if I don't have any clue either."

"Start interviewing people then, I don't know."

You see, Vernon is a broadcast journalism student and he was one of the first people you met when you transferred. He was apart of the news staff and they suggested that he do a report, cracking down on the case of this mysterious myth. Legend has it that every full moon, you can see a ghost walk around the clock tower.

"We have a clock tower?"

"____." He deadpanned.

"What? I told you I just got here."

"I really need to take you around campus." He said while asking his head.

"Let's go now then!" You said while tugging at his wrist. He allowed you to drag him and once you reached outside, you let go.

"Lead the way, Mr. Reporter!"

"Mr. Reporter...I like the sound of that. Let's go then, shall we?" He extends his elbow out so you can link arms with him and when you do, the tour begins. Vernon informs you on everything in and around campus. By the time you reach the clock tower, the sun was already starting to set. You look in your weather app and see that tonight is a full moon. Your eyes widen and you nudge Vernon.

"Vernon! Tonight is a full moon!"

"No way, really?" You then show him your phone and his eyes grew in size.

"You're thinking what I'm thinking?" You ask him with a smirk on your face.

"Perhaps." He said with a wink.

"On the count of three, we'll see say it at the same time?"

You two face each other, counting to three.

"Stakeout!" You both start bouncing in excitement, realizing that you both had the same idea.

"I would say we should meet back here soon but I would get lost, plus I'm hungry."

"So here's what we do: since my dorm is near the dining hall I'll get my camera so we can record in night vision and I'll meet you in the dining hall."

"Sounds good." You both run towards the dining hall in excitement before Vernon makes a beeline to his dorm. You slow down as you reach inside the hall and look around, deciding on what to eat. By the time you have everything, Vernon is by your side.

"Alright so I got the camera, tripod and blankets."

"Blankets?"

"For when we get cold."

"Ah, good thinking." He then gets his food and after you both pay, you head back to the clock tower.

As you two ate, you talked about how your classes were going. He also told you new information he found out about this mysterious ghost.

"Did they mention if the ghost walked around at a certain time or no?"

"They didn't say."

After another 2 to 3 hours outside, you were starting to feel sleepy and the blankets were not helping you stay awake. Your head would occasionally fall to the side, almost laying on Vernon's shoulder. He quickly noticed this and took a look at your droopy eyes.

"____, I think we should call it a night."

"B-but our stakeout..."

"It can't be a stakeout if we're both asleep."

You frowned, knowing that he was right. He got up with a stretch and pulled you up afterwards. You went to unwrap the blanket around your shoulders so you can give it back to Vernon but he stopped you.

"You can give it back to me whenever you see me."

"Okay so you're either getting it back tomorrow or whenever you come over to my dorm."

"Can I come over tomorrow so I can show you whatever I find, if anything?"

"Yea of course! Make sure you go to sleep." You said, finishing your sentence with a yawn.

"I still have some energy left in me but you on the other hand..."

"Alright, I get it. I'll go to bed first."

Vernon packs up everything and he walks you back to your dorm.

"I'll see you in the morning?" You ask him.

He nods, "See you in the morning."

You both wish each other a good night and you wave him goodbye as you went inside and got in the elevator.

The next morning, you were woken up with a knock on your door. Seeing that your roommate wasn't in the room, you imagined that they forgot their key again. You were surprised when you opened the door and saw Vernon on the other side.

"How did you get in?"

"Your roommate."

You move to the side, letting him in and he sits at your desk.

"So I looked at the footage we got last night."

"And?"

"See for yourself." He pulls up a short version of the footage and you couldn't believe your eyes. The video had to be slowed down but you can make out the ghost.

"So it's not a myth after all..."

"Nope."

"Well that's great! You can do your news story!"

"I hope you know I'm mentioning you in the story."

"Why?"

"I wouldn't have been able to do it without you."

You give him a hug, feeling honored.

"Whenever you need an assistant reporter or something, I got you."

"You'll be the first person I call."
