Before the Harem: Ryuin

"come on, Ryu, lighten up! Let's go have some fun!" Victoria tried to drag Ryuin out of the house they shared with two other demons. None of them had parents but it wasn't uncommon for kids to be abandoned in hell. After all, demons were all about a free life.

Ryuin closed the book he managed to get his hands on. It was written by someone on earth by the name of vergil. Ryuin didn't know who he was and figured he would be dead by that point since it was an older novel. "what are we going to do?"

"I don't know." Victoria shrugged. "Something fun. Maybe we can get to the summoning circles and jump through!"

"That's for higher ranked demons. Ones that can actually grant wishes and make deals." Ryuin pointed out.

"Are you kidding me? You're the strongest demon in our generation!" Victoria grabbed Ryuin's arm and tried to pull him out of his chair.

"Just because I can use magic does not make me the strongest. I believe the princess Blake is considered a part of our generation. She is likely the strongest." Ryuin said. "I had plans today."

"Oh really? What are they?"

"I want to find a shadow beast." Ryuin answered.

"Shadow beast? Aren't they super rare?" Victoria asked. "And they're only out of town, it's dangerous out there."

"For low level demons, yes." Ryuin nodded, looking up at her. "however I am an exception. My magic will protect us."

"Why do you want to see a shadow beast anyways? I know they're extremely loyal and all but they're hard to tame."

"You actually cannot tame them. They choose their own partners. I just want to see one and try my luck. Who knows, they may choose to be your partner." Ryuin tried to tempt her.  He often didn't leave the house unless it was on his own agenda. Victoria knew how stubborn her roommate could be.

"Alright, fine." Victoria agreed. "but that means you have to come to the summoning portals with me later."

"Deal." Ryuin nodded. "I will be ready in five minutes. Please be ready then as well?"

"Gotcha!"

"What was that sound?" Victoria squeaked upon hearing a yowl somewhere in ragged cliffs outside of their town.

"No idea." Ryuin patted Victoria's hand. She was clutching onto his arm. They were both at the lowest level of common demon and were quite young which is what caused them to be considered weak. Strength, especially in magic, was valued highly in hell after all.

There was another yowl in the forest making Victoria jump. Even the strongest demons have been killed by the creatures in hells wild area.

"I'm going to check it out." Ryuin said, walking towards the sound. The deadlines they were walking through had a lot of steep hills and drop offs.

"Ryuin, you idiot wait up!" Victoria said as Ryuin hopped off one of the ledges. She followed him since she didn't want to get caught alone. Ryuin jogged over the uneven terrain until they saw a stalking creature. He then paused to see what was going on.

"What the heck is that?" Victoria asked, panting a bit from chasing after Ryuin. He made navigating that area look so easy.

"Spine Backed Saber Cat." Ryuin answered. "Immune to most dark magic and curses. They eat demons. Stay quiet."

Ryuin looked closer and tried to figure out what it was hunting. That was when he spotted the lizard looking shadow beast that had been cornered.  Ryuin got up. He wanted to see the shadow beast up close.
