"You have got to be kidding me." Maelle grumbled as she was brought to the gate by one of the new castle guards.

"I'm sorry, Miss Maelle. He wouldn't leave, I didnt know what to do." The boy who really was too young to be considered a man in Maelles opinion tried to explain himself.

"It's alright. This guy is something different. Never let him into the palace. He isn't welcome." Maelle said before they arrived at the gate. She knew this Neko's scent the moment she caught it.

"Collan, how can I help you today?" Maelle asked.

The brown furred neko turned up his chin to Maelle. She was a hybrid, better than nothing but not quite to his neko status. "I'm here to speak to Elyse."

"Mm, yes I should have guessed. Same as Monday. And twice last week. Once the week before that. Should I continue? You know my response will be the same as every other time you have come." Maelle was sharp with him but without him crossing into castle ground or attempting to hurt someone she wouldn't do anything to him.

"I'm not going to stop until I get to talk to her." Collan said.

"She doesn't want to talk to you!" Maelle could not believe this man refused to give up. There were other Calico hybrids in the world! They were rare but existed. She had no idea why he was so hung up on Elyse when, from what she'd heard, they didn't even go on a full date.

"I don't believe you. You just know I need a queen and want to keep her from me." Collan accused.

"The only queen here is Queen Cherry. Now leave. You are walking dangerously close to being consider treasonous. I will have no problem arresting you."

As usual, a threat of arresting Collan for his attention. He growled under his breath. "Fine. Tell her I want to speak to her. I'll come back for her tomorrow." He had no doubt her answer would be yes.

Maelle watched him turn and leave. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "D-mn cat is gonna be the death of me. Or himself." She grumbled. "back to your post." She added to the young guard before returning to her own work.

"Hey." A firm hand gripped Elyse's shoulder. She startled and spun to face... Oh no. Collan.

"Oh! You startled me." Elyse said. "I'm actually working right now. I'm kind of busy. I can't spare the time to chat."

She knew Collan had been coming to the palace most days and lurking outside the gate. She'd caught him staring at her when she went to the tavern the other night. He was stalking her. She just didn't know how often he was following her. She hadn't noticed his scent in the market due to everyone else. Hadn't seen his plain brown fur in the crowd of people around the same height as he was. He was so average he was hard to spot.

"Sure you can. I saw you stop and talk to the shop keep much longer than you had to." Collan said.

"You're right. I just don't really want to talk to you right now." Elyse said. She didn't want to be mean but this was going too far. "Please leave me alone Collan."

"But Elyse, my beautiful queen, we need to start planning-"

"Stop it. I'm not a queen." Elyse said. "You are not starting a neko revolution. You'll only get us slaughtered. Hybrids aren't free everywhere yet. Don't ruin our name and make it worse for slaves." She said. "you can't win so give up. If nothing else, leave me out of it."
