Okay this is my lore which obviously doesn't match yours but it's okay we'll figure it out. Kinda half assed cause I have 45 minutes to write this before my shift
~~~~~~REALMS
A realm is a plane of existence spread throughout a galaxy. Different galaxies may have a different number of realms and they may vary greatly.
The Milky Way Galaxy, the one we're in, has 6 distinct realms each with varying points of connection and access.
The oldest realm is the celestial realm. This is home to the gods. There is one access point to the celestial realm, through the Utopian Realm. One can only go through this point if they have the blood of a god in their veins or are the direct servant of a god. Not all gods live there but most do.
The Celestial Realm consists of many pantheons of human belief. There is interaction between all the gods but they tend to keep their religious affairs to themselves. The Celestial ranking order is used in times of conflict in which the higher ranking god may demand respect or negotiate a conflict between lesser gods.
The Celestial Realm is an overall lawless place. Gods do as they please and others rarely bother them. The only time true punishment has been inflicted was on Seth.
That brings me to the second realm, the Cipher. The realm of nothingness. Not only does nothing exist in this realm but nothing can be created in this realm, even by the hands of the original three gods. Demigods and all lesser beings cannot exist in this realm, they will be destroyed. Higher gods can exist in the Cipher but their powers are useless. The only way in or out is by the hand of the original three. They are the only ones powerful enough to access it.
The Utopian Realm was a nickname bestowed on the plane of afterlives. This consists of things like Heaven and the Fields of Aliqu. It is a realm mostly run by servants. Though all these afterlives exist on the same plane, magical barriers prevent the deceased from traveling between them. With the exception of servants (angels etc) who can freely travel between the afterlives.
The only afterlife not existing on this plane is Hell. Originally the Realm of Monsters, Hell exists in a Realm of it's own making it the biggest of all afterlife destinations and one freely governed by the demons that reside within it.
Where are monsters now you may ask? The Ether, also sometimes called the Fae Realm. It is a realm plentiful in magic that overlaps the mortal realm. Some can see simultaneously into both of these realms or even interact with both. The Ether is mainly inhabited by Spirits, Monsters, and some fairy type species. It is very empty and identical to the mortal realm it overlaps.
The mortal realm is the one we live on. Earth, Mars, etc. The one I habited by humans and other lifeterm species.
SOULS
A soul is made up of two pieces. The first is the 'Life'. Life is the valuable part of a soul, often considered to be a limited source in the vast universe. Lives are what is taken when a soul is reincarnated. They are refreshed and used repetitively throughout time.
The second part is the Consciousness. Consciousness is ones memories, personality, and way of thinking. When one goes to the afterlife it is only their Consciousness that goes there while the Life is reincarnated. Since they are not a full being anymore they are able to be punished or rest according to their choices when alive.
While some Consciousnesses choose to go to a paradise after death, others desire 'eternal darkness' in which they are essentially just destroyed.
Ghosts and many spirits are the result of a botched separation. They are a consciousness with no Life. Without assistance they cannot enter the afterlife and without a vessel they cannot interact with the living.
Demons are the combination of a Consciousness and an artificial Life bound and forced into an empty vessel. Hence the mental instability in many demons.
