"Are you sure you're going to be okay here, dear? You can stay with us for another week if you need." Lucy offered.

Jennel had been working at the palace for about a week but has been walking back and forth every day. She had gotten herself assigned the room and was moving in today. Lucy had come to help her even though she had very little. She'd arrived with only the clothes on her back and hadn't gotten much since.

"It's okay, really. Thank you for everything though." Jennel set down her bag on the unused bed that she assumed would be hers. "I'll pay you back some day, I promise."

"There's no need. Hewy bought me from my master years ago. I've always wanted to do the same for someone else. You keep the cycle moving. Help someone that you don't need to help."

Jennel looked up at Lucy and wrapped her arms around her in a slightly awkward hug. After a moment Lucy released her.

"Okay. Okay, I'm going to leave now or you'll never get rid of me." Lucy said. "visit soon Jennel."

Jennel nodded. "I promise I will."

Lucy left soon after that and Jennel started unpacking. She didn't have much. A few shirts to hang in her wardrobe and some folded clothes easily able to fit in her chest. Jennel took the sheets at the bottom of her bed and started to make it since it was just waiting for her.

Jennel stroked her hand over the blanket. It was surprisingly soft considering it was for servants.

Her ear swiveled around when she heard footsteps in the hall. Many sets. It was about the time that dinner would be over. Servants must be heading back to rooms to relax or spend time together.

Jennel figured her roommate would be back soon too.

Maelle had actually pulled Erin aside after dinner to speak to her. Generally staffing and rooming was an issue for Misty, the 'house mom' as most called her. She coordinated staff, especially around event times. However Jennel was going to be close to the queen and future child so Maelle was more involved than she would usually be.

"Can I help you?" Erin asked once they were in private.

"I just wanted to talk to you about your new roommate. You said you were alright with a pregnant roommate, didn't you?" She knew Misty had asked a couple women about that before assigning Jennel.

"Yes, I did." Erin nodded.

"I wanted to speak to you about her. Jennel moved in tonight. It's not my place to tell you much about her last but I have to ask you to be patient with her. She's very timid, from what I've seen. You have a big personality, I only ask you to be mindful of her. The last thing a pregnant girl needs is stress."

Did she say girl? Well, Maelle was very old, she probably called everyone that.

"You're dismissed if you have no questions." Maelle added.

"You said her name was Jennel?"

"Yes. Jennel."

"Thanks." Erin smiled before turning to leave. It was a little strange thinking she'd be paired with an older woman as a roommate since Erin was only 15 and moderatly new at the palace. Still, she wanted to fit in. Having a roommate was just part of the experience. She was looking forward to meet her roommate.

"Oh."

Jennel startled at the voice. She'd been so off in her own world she didn't hear someone come to the door. She closed her diary with the pen marking her page. She'd brought it with her when she ran, she never went anywhere without her diary. Despite being a slave she wasn't illiterate. High class nobles liked slaves that reflected their grace and class.
