"Nolan!" Merek rushed over to his son.

Nolan stared at his father with an emotionless face, his hand slowly going to his neck. He followed the warm trail upwards and found a small hole.

"Ah. . ." Only the weakest of croaks escaped his lips. Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion.

It didn't hurt. Really, Nolan couldn't feel a thing. He hadn't even seen the arrow coming, he didn't feel it for more than a split second as it cut through his neck.

Was everything always this quiet?

Why was the world spinning? Oh, he was falling.

Merek caught Nolan before he could hit the ground and picked up his son. He had a rag with him meant to clean your hands after a kill but now held it to Nolan's neck.

Nolans head fell against Merek's chest as he was rushed through the forest towards their horses. He fought with his eyes to keep them open. He saw his father's lips moving but heard nothing.

Blood pooled in his throat and he brought up his hand to cough. That's when the pain hit him.

Nolan squeezed his eyes shut and grabbed his father's arm for support. He had been shot! He was bleeding. His neck, his neck was bleeding? Why wasn't it healing? He was a vampire it should heal.

"Nolan, stay awake buddy. You gotta stay awake." Nolan opened his eyes when he heard his father's voice though everything was misty through his welling tears. It hurt.

Nolan opened his mouth to try to speak but only coughed up more blood. He held the cloth to his neck but it was quickly staining red.

Thankfully they had used a teleportation charm to come hunt this far north. Merek stopped at the camp and grabbed the charm, instantly teleporting them back to the palace.

He ignored the staff that started to greet them and rushed into the healers office. The middle aged woman looked up from her papers and quickly was on her feet when she saw the bloody rag on the young princes neck.

She opened her lock box and pulled out a healing potion. It was a very expensive potion she saved for emergencies such as this.

Nolan looked at her with wide eyes as she moved the cloth from his neck. Her visable since didn't help calm his racing heart.

She poured a the cold liquid over his throat and the pained numbed for a moment before coming back just as strong as before.

"Why isn't it working?" Merek asked.

"I don't know. There must be poison. Do you have the arrow?"

"No." Merek said, looking down at Nolan then back to their healer. "you can save him right."

"Ill do my best."

Do her best? Nolan weakly reached an arm up to his father. He didn't want to die. He was only 10.

Merek looked down at Nolan with misty eyes but smiled, trying to be strong. "You'll be fine Nolan. She knows what she's doing."

"I-" Nolan wheezed but the words were lost in his throat. "I-" he tried again.

"Don't talk." The healer told him, going to get her medical supplies to handle this the old fashioned way.

Nolans head fell down onto the table. He could feel his body getting weaker and his hand slipped from Merek's arm.

Dad. Nolans fingers twitched but he couldn't raise his hand. His vision was starting to get foggy and the pain was duller.

"It'll be okay Nolan. Just keep your eyes open." Merek reached down to hold Nolan's hand. "it's going to be okay."
