I wanted to be depressed. So I wrote this.
Now I want to sleep. So I shall.

Elyse? Do you want to make me some of those Chocolate Croissants today?" Sitri asked. Sure he didn't need to eat but he always tried treats Elyse made for the servants. He'd found he liked many of them and would look forward to days when she baked. He knew that she loved getting his approval for her cooking too."I'm sorry, not today." Elyse said quietly. She had been in bed for over a week. A few days ago she'd lost their child. It struck both of them hard but Elyse took it much worse. She hadn't been very far along, just over 2 months. You could hardly even tell she was pregnant at the time.
Since then she'd left their room only a handful of times. Sitri had asked Valentine to bring meals to their room once he realized she wasn't eating very much. She was so full of grief that she felt too sick to eat most of the time.
Sitri pursed his lips as he glanced at the tray of cold food beside their bed. A few bites of bread was gone but that was all. "let's go to the kitchen. We'll get you some soup." He encouraged her to get up but as usual Elyse stared blankly at the wall in front of her. She barely ever looked into sitris eyes anymore. If she did, her gaze was filled with pain and shame.
Elyse's hands were resting on her belly, now as flat as it was when he first met her. They had known this was a possibility. Cambions weren't known to be easy for the mother or the child. Sitri had said that if he had to choose between Elyse and a child, he would save Elyse. This wasn't about saving either of them, though. She had lost the child by no fault. The doctor had assured them that there was nothing wrong with Elyse and that if they were to try again she would have just as good of a chance as she'd had the first time. She'd been very good about eating and sleeping enough, following all of Liliths advice. It just wasn't enough this time.
Sitri moved onto the bed and wrapped his arms around Elyse. Her head rest lightly against his chest. "Look at me." He said and so Elyse looked up at him and met his eyes.
Sitri looked down at her glossy eyes of unshed tears. "Your eyes are so beautiful. I miss seeing them." Sitri said, gently wiping away a single fallen tear with his thumb. "I miss seeing my wife."
"I'm sorry." Elyse pressed her forehead against his shoulder and began to cry.
Sitri rubbed her back and held her close to him. He knew she'd been struggling with this but this was the first time she'd allowed herself to simply cry. It was what she needed.
"I wanted- I wanted it to work. I wanted to have your baby. I wanted a family." She sobbed. "and I couldn't. I'm sorry."
"Shh. It's not your fault. I'm not mad." Sitri spoke in a soft voice, knowing she could hear him. "We can still have that, Elyse, but not right now. You need to take better care of yourself."
Elyse gave a small nod. She knew he was right. She'd never have a chance if she couldn't stay healthy.
"And Elyse," Sitri gently guided her to look up at him again. "even if we can't have a child, I will still love you. I'm not going to leave you."
That had always been her fear. He knew how terrified she was of being abandoned. Of not being good enough and being tossed aside. "So bring back my sweet, happy wife. Okay? We can get through this together."
"Okay." Her whispered reply was all Sitri needed to hear to know that she would start to recover. She would slowly accept their loss and come back to him.
