Daniel lay in his bed staring up at the one above him. He should get up at work, Scilia had already been gone for a while. He figured she woke up early to spend the night with Yasmine.  Sigh, That required a lot more effort than he felt like giving right now.

Daniel was given an excuse to wait longer when his door clicked open. Based on the sounds he knew it was Scilia without even looking.

"Daniel..." Her voice was so soft. Daniel had rarely heard her take that tone before. He immediately sat up, almost whacking his head in the process.

"What's wrong?"

Blood. Why was there blood on her hands? Some was smeared on her stomach and tail too but Daniel didn't see any injuries. He got out of bed and rushed over to Scilia. He took her arms to let her know where he was.

"I couldn't do it." Scilia whimpered.

"You're freezing cold." Daniel pulled Scilia in closer and hugged her to share body heat. He didn't care if he got blood on his clothes. Vespers, like most hellish demons, ran a bit warmer than humans. It was part of the nature vs. nurture acclimation to their home weather.

Daniel brought scilia closer to the fire and lit it, all the while she didn't let go of Daniel. She was shaking but he knew it wasn't from the cold. Lamia don't shiver. This was something else. Daniel was almost certain she was in shock.

"Are you hurt?" Daniel asked.

Scilia shook her head no. Tears steadily fell from her eyes. She clutched onto Daniels shirt, doing her best not to entirely breakdown. "Warmer. Please."

"You have to let go." Daniel said. Scilia nodded but still took a moment longer to let go.  Daniel got up and pulled his comforter from his bed. He pulled off his hoodie, then his t-shirt and jeans. Being in just his boxers around a woman may seem strange but it was for the sake of more skin contact. More body heat. That was the same reason they had the blanket, it would trap his heat.

Daniel returned to Scilia and she quickly wrapped around him. Her tail coiled around under him and around his legs while her torso rested on his chest. It wasn't the first time they'd been in a similar position where scilia desperately needed heat.

"Are you feeling better?" Daniel asked after a while of warming up. He felt a little chilled with Scilia's cool skin on his but he'd be fine. Scilia shook her head no.

"I couldn't save her, Daniel?"

"Save who?"

"The girl. Lizzy. I couldn't do anything." Scilia clutched onto Daniels shoulder, once again fighting her tears.

"I saw her. I saw her friends. They were at Starring lake." Starring lake was a lake not far out of town. Often young adults would drink and party there. Teens of all ages would jump off the surrounding cliffsides. None were too tall, ten or twelve feet at most. However broken bottles thrown into the lake from the drinkers was a hazzard to the divers. You needed to check the water before you jumped.

"They told her to do a flip. They pressured her to jump and she tried. She went in like a dive and hit her head on the rocks at the bottom. I saw it and I tried to get there in time."

"I wasn't fast enough. I could hear her hit the water when I arrived. Her friends ran when I dove in after her. I couldn't find her Daniel. I couldn't see her." After all her vision was what showed her of the incident. When she went there in person she couldn't see again.
