Information scattered throughout three chapters in two books. Let's just compile it.

Gods and realms
There are four major realms. Highest is the deity realm. This is where the gods live. Gods come into existence and fade as humans believe them to be so.

I mainly use Aliqu (goddess of cycles and mother of hybrids), Mother Nature and Seth (god of the unknown and creator of nightmares)

Below them if the upper afterlife. Heaven for Christians, The Fields for Aliqu worshipers, on and on. These divisions don't mix.

Below that is the mortal realm. Earth as you know it with humans and such.

Finally is the under realm. This one has passed through two names. The monster realm then hell.

Ancient Hell
In the begining the hell you know wasn't actually hell. It was a magic realm ruled by monsters (Aliqu and her storyline in rp book).

Monsters survived in the most ancient times when humans were still very young.  However it was a species low in number and high in diversity. A sudden population spike led the monsters to leave their realm and integrate into earthly society.

In fact, monsters evolved into many of the species you see today. Mer, Fae, and many humans with magic abilities can trace an ancestor to a monster.

Note this does not apply to all species. Some, like werewolves, were created by curses. Others, such as nightmares, were created by the gods.

Monsters have since gone almost entirely extinct. Once they left the realm, the demons took it and made it hell.

Modern Hell

Build
There were four main cities in hell. The main one was affectionately dubbed "Hell City". That was the largest by far. About a third of all demons lived there and it held about 60% of all souls in hell.

Ecrtria had been where most monsters lived when they controlled the realm. It was the second largest city with most of the remaining demon population. Generally for soul collectors and deal trading demons.

Then Deretin where the worst of the worst souls were punished. There is also a small subdivision called DevilCity. That is where satanists, worshipers of Lucifer or Blake, go after death. Only the worthy become demons, the rest go to their own little version of heaven within hell. Aside from those souls and the demons who worked there, it was almost abandoned. Amusingly the only location in the entire realm where it was cold.

And finally Akris, a vacation place more than anything else. It was a natural location for hot springs. It was also where Blake held her fighting festivals (explained below) and there were various other events. It was a party city at the best of times and quiet at the worst.

Between the cities was mostly forested area leftover from when monsters had once lived here. Plants that could kill a human as fast as the demons were common in these areas. Demons chose to stay out of those areas generally due to the creatures within them. ShadowBeasts, dragonkin, and plenty more lurked in the darkness between tightly packed trees.

Ruling and power
Lucifer (or his daughter Blake depending on the storyline) rule hell. Lucifer has six siblings that are as powerful as he however not all of them remain in hell or work for him. Most do their own thing.

Your rank in society, so to say, is determined entirely by power. Age has nothing to do with respect however you tend to get stronger with age so in a sense it does.

There are two ways to gain power. The first is simple, practice. The second is much more violent. By eating the heart of a demon stronger than you, you will absorb a portion of their power. That's assuming you can kill the stronger demon first.

Power is something you learn and are born with. For example, Lucifers children are naturally much stronger than a basic demon.

Jobs
Most demons torture souls as their job. It can be fun if you enjoy it.

There are also Scouts which are earth living demons that keep an eye on humans and angels. They warn Lucifer if angels seem to be making any sort of problematic move or inform him of souls he may want to turn into demons once they die. If those humans are sinners, it's an easy claim.

However it is the souls that they want but are sin free that Soul Collectors work with. They're the demons that make a deal with you in exchange for your soul. It's tricky work and demons successful at this job are often given praise or gifts from Lucifer himself.

Finally there are basic Deal Trading demons which are the demons you summon when you want to make a deal. The fear caused by those demons helps Lucifer keep relevance and hold fear over earth. They can more or less do whatever they please.

Conflict
In some storylines a rebellion in hell is mentioned. This is usually due to Lucifer having vanished and his daughter Blake taking control of hell.

Not all demons feel she is deserving of Lucifer's title. They believe they are stronger and start a rebellion intent on overthrowing her.

Blake, of course, feels she deserves the throne and those loyal to her command fight back.

In other storylines Blake keeps peace by offering a battle for the throne. Once ever five years a battle is arranged. One on one each demon that desires to fight Blake may. If you can kill her, eat her heart and take her place as devil.

However if you fail, she may choose to kill you for your power and she will only grow stronger.

Laws
There is very little regulation in hell. Simply put, don't touch DevilCity or the souls being tortured (unless you're there to torture the souls of course). And don't mess with Blake/Lucifer.

You can steal, murder, just about anything you want. But be careful. If you piss off too many people they'll probably kill you. Or worse as these are professional torturers.
