This was fast. 2k words is enough.

Age 5

"have you seen Luke?" Dad asked.

Luke hopped down from the cat tree he's been perched on and trotted into the kitchen, rubbing against his father's legs with a soft meow.

"Oh, there you are buddy. It's breakfast time."

Mom finished scooping canned tuna onto a plate for him and set it on the floor for him. Lukas walked over and happily started to lap up the room temperature meat. He thought it was pretty tasty. Soon dad would go to work and he could be a boy again.

"Love you honey, I'll be back around five." Dad gave Mom a quick peck before grabbing his bag and walking out of the house. Luke listened to the car pull out of the driveway before shifting into his human form.

Mom gave him a pat on the head and picked up his plate once he finished. "Ready for your bath?" She asked. Today was bath day, Luke really enjoyed those.

"Mhm!" Luke nodded.

"Alright, let me do the dishes from breakfast and then we can go take a bath." She told him, picking up his plate and gathering the dishes from the table.

Luke peeked out the front window to watch the birds and noticed a car pulling into their driveway. Why was Dad back already?

"Hey honey, I forgot my charger." Dad announced as he walked back into the house.

"It's on the table! Mom is in the kitchen." Luke said, trying to be helpful.

Dad stared at the boy no older than five. "Honey?!"

"Luke!" Mom rushed out of the kitchen. Uh oh, she looked mad. He was supposed to be a cat when dad came home in the afternoon but it wasn't the afternoon.

Lukas suddenly shrunk down into his car form, assuming that's what they wanted from him. Dad looked pale and shocked, Mom looked concerned.

"I can explain -"

The next bit of talking went mostly over Luke's head. He was more focused on watching dad become angrier and mom getting more flustered.

She said Luke was her son. And something about an affair, though he didn't know what that meant.

Dad gave Luke a disgusted look, causing him to cower back against Mom's legs. "Get rid of it."

"He's my son!"

"Well he's not mine. Jesus Mariah he's not even human! What sort of a beast did you sleep with, a cat?"

"I didn't know-

"Get rid of it, or leave with it. I want it gone by the time I get home." Dad said. Sometime during the conversation he must have grabbed his charger because he left the house, slamming the door behind him.

Lukas shifted back into his human form. "Mom?"

Why was she crying?

Mom wiped away her tears quickly and put on the best smile she could. "change of plans Luke. We're going to go on a car ride, okay?"

"I like car rides!"

. . . .

"I don't like this place mom." Luke said, hiding against her side as they entered the large building, too many people were looking at him.

"We don't have to stay long. You take a seat right there." She said, pointing to a row of chairs. Luke didn't want to but he took a seat. She then walked up to the counter to talk to the woman up there.
