Daniel and Scilia hadn't done a whole lot in these first few weeks as roommates. Few weeks? No, the snow was melting. It must have been at least a couple months. Daniel wasn't certain what day it was actually.

What he was certain of was his roommate being slightly annoying. He looked up to see the faint outline of a tail wrapped between the upper bunk of the two beds. He'd found that strange at first but had gotten used to it now.

Scilia was moving around a lot and muttering something. "mmm stop... Leave him... Hey..."

"Scilia, wake up." Daniel got out of his bed, a small ball of light appearing on his hand. It was one of the first spells he'd learned how to cast. Very useful but it took a lot of magic to sustain for long periods of time so it was generally regarded as useless.

"Scilia." He climbed up so he was leaning over the bar of the top bunk and touched her shoulder.

Scilia's eyes snapped open. For a moment Daniel could have sworn he was facing two bright amber eyes but she blinked and he was met with that pale white again. "Daniel?" She asked, her words light as her breathing was still off.

"Yeah. I think you were having a nightmare." Daniel got off the bunk and back onto the floor. Scilia unwrapped her tail to drop as well.

Daniel avoided the hallways when they were busy. It was too early to leave the room yet. Very few people had seen his face despite how long he'd been there.

Maelle had. That woman who scheduled staff and assigned chores, he forgot her name. And some Francian man he happened to bump into occasionally. He perfected to keep it that way.  Maybe he could just go back to sleep.

"Daniel." A hand on his arm stopped him from going back to bed.

"What?" He asked. He wasn't close with his roommate. He didn't want to be. This was more words than they'd spoken in days and her sudden touching was awkward.

"What do you look like?"

"I requested you because you don't know." Daniel said. He didn't want to tell her what he was.

"You look like a bat, right?" Scilia asked. "Purple and blond hair. Pink underside to your wings?

"It's red.' Daniel muttered.

No it was pink but he wanted to be more masculine.

"Daniel this is important. Please be straight with me. I'm worried your in danger." Scilia said. She had his full attention now. He was facing her but pulled her hand off him.

"What are you talking about?"

"It's... I'm not just a Lamia, Daniel. You noticed it once that you cant use magic on me. It's part of my powers. I get feelings about the future. When I'm asleep they're real visions. And I think I saw you in one."

"Yes. I'm a vesper. A bat demon." Daniel answered her. He didn't know if he believed her but she looked disturbed. She at least believed what she was saying.

"Don't leave the palace tonight. There's demons in this town. Ones that want to hurt you. They're just passing through but if you leave you will bump into them." Scilia warned.

Daniel felt his heart skip a beat. He thought he'd lost the demons. Another set of the bounty hunters had caught his trail before he got the job here and were trying to kidnap him for who knows what. All he knew was someone was willing to pay a lot for him, the same someone had paid a lot for his sisters.
