Ailish: oh son, don’t be… I understand, im home now and feeling so much better
Danny: I should have been there
Ailish: don’t beat yourself up Danny, jess needs you-
Danny: so do you
Ailish: she’s your wife danny, no one blames you for staying with her
Danny: and your my mum
Ailish: look, I have some tests tomorrow and if they are all good then im going to fly over and see you-
Danny: you don’t have too do that-
Ailish: but I want to, I want to see jess before you know…
Danny: yeah
Ailish: go on get back to her, ill talk to you soon
Danny: ok, bye ma
*end of call*
I sigh and stand outside jess’s room. Rose and steven are here again. They have been here every day this week. I need to talk to them about… a date. I compose myself and walk in.
Danny: rose, steven?
They look at me, oh god
Danny: um, I need to talk to you about jess
Rose: what is it darling?
Danny: they, um, they need a date… a date to, to, to turn jess’s machines off…
The only sound in the room was the beeping of jess’s machine.
Danny: sorry *Whisper*
Steven: don’t be dan; it’s not your fault
I sit down,
Rose: do you, do you have any dates in mind?
Danny: i-I have a few- I wanted to speak to you first though
Rose: go on then
I take a deep breath
Danny: um, of course jess’s birthday is in a week today, so I was thinking the last day of this month? Or the second of April? - Her grandmother’s anniversary… or the fifth of April cause that’s her favourite day of the year… I really don’t know- do you have any ideas?
Rose: i-I think the fifth of April… Steven?
Steven: I agree… just less than 3 weeks
I nod
Danny: ok, I’ll let doctor Belgrave know… im sorry
Rose hugged me and I soon left to find Skyler or someone.
Danny: Skyler?
Skyler: oh hi Danny, is everything ok?
Danny: um i-I, we have decided on a date
Skyler: oh ok, hang on ill grab Jessie’s folder, she went behind the nurses station and pulls out a brown folder- it big. She grabbed a post it note
Skyler: ok, when?
Danny: the-the 5th of April
She notes it down
Skyler: I know how hard that must have been Danny, I’ve left a note for my dad, and he’ll be round to see Jessie tomorrow… ill make sure he knows and speaks to you
