Levi's POV:
A few weeks has gone by. I had assumed there would be preparation for Eren's birthday for whatever reason but he wasn't talked about nor was Mikasa. Actually, I hadn't known it was Annie's birthday in March as well so that was what we were focusing on. Sasha and Jean collectively came up with the idea of laser tag. We all agreed with different levels of enthusiasm. Hange, being the oldest and having a car, took me, Armin, and Jean. Sasha and Connie went together, Ymir had her own car and took Historia, and then Annie, Bertolt, and Reiner went together as well. Once again, no Mikasa and no Eren.
I heard Mikasa talking to Armin the other night on the phone. It seems like they're still just as close as ever, they just don't hang out in a group setting such as this. But she seems to be in two different places at once. One, she loves Eren and this is all she's ever wanted. Two, she misses her friends. Well I don't know what she expected from these guys. They're the most loyal bunch I've ever seen.
We arrived at Warrior Sports and met up with the rest.
"I put our name in already," Reiner said to everyone.
"Levi!" Sasha gasped and stared at me like I had a million heads. "You're wearing blue!" Was it really that big of a deal? I mean yeah, this is my first colored shirt since I was 7 but it's not anything crazy.
"Yeah." I nodded like it was an incredibly obvious thing to point out, which it was, but left it at that. Luckily, no one else commented on it.
We all made our way into the room with the gear we needed and I immediately cringed. I had never done something like this before but the last thing I wanted to do was look like a bitch. Is this stuff even sanitary?
"How are we splitting the teams?" Armin asked.
"Levi Squad," Annie said and then looked at me, "Levi, Hange, Jean, and Historia."
"Try not to obliterate them this time," Reiner joked towards Annie. This time? Is this not the first time?
Suddenly my mind flashed to 4 bodies. One of them being Petra, my middle school girlfriend. The other 3 were just random kids in my class that I didn't talk to; Eld, Gunther, and Oluo. But then another flash happened.
"Maintain current distance." Mikasa and I were gliding through the forest with our ODM gear to trail behind the Female Titan. "She slowed down a bit. But it's unlikely that Eren survived."
"He's still alive in there. This Titan is different, it acts with purpose. If she wanted Eren dead, she could've simply crushed him. No, she needs him for something. But she also needs her hands to fight. So she's been holding him on her tongue."
"It is possible she just wanted to savor her quarry. In which case it's likely he's already been swallowed. If so, he's dead."
"He's alive!"
"Someone's optimistic."
"If you had just done your damn job and protected him like you were supposed to, we wouldn't be having this conversation!"
I was taken aback by her outburst and disrespect. I maneuvered in front of her so she could look directly at me just so she knows that I'm about to shut her brat mouth up.
"Oh, I see now...a childhood friend, right? Suddenly it's all making sense."
I remember that being one of the moments where I was determined to protect Eren. Him getting hurt was the last thing I wanted. Weird how Mikasa and I aren't actual siblings since we seemed to fight like we were.
"Titan Squad," Reiner announced next, "me, Bertolt, birthday girl as the captain, Armin, and Ymir."
Armin was a Titan? Is that what that means? Then why doesn't he have his memory back? Wait...Ymir was a Titan too? How didn't I know that either? Just when you think you're caught up with everything, you're really not.
