Eren's POV:

It was the second day of class. Mom made sure to pack two extra snacks for me to give to Mikasa and Armin during lunch. It's not that I didn't have friends in the past, but none of them were in my class this year so I had to start over.

We sat in our assigned seats and class had begun. Math was clearly not my best subject. I felt dumb for not understanding simple things. Multiplication was the main math topic in 2nd grade and I did absolutely awful. I can't imagine this year being any different. Hopefully Mrs. Braus will go easy on us for now.

Soon after our extremely difficult math lesson, lunch rolled around. I was excited yet extremely nervous. Everyone was still sitting far apart at the lunch table but I knew I needed to be the one to initiate the conversation. Even though Armin and Mikasa were sitting next to each other, they didn't say a word. Now's my chance.

"Hi, I'm Eren." I awkwardly say. They both looked at me. Armin seemed scared and Mikasa just didn't seem like she wanted to talk at all. Hoping it would help, I took out the two extra bags of cookies my mom packed for me to give.

"T-thanks." The blonde boy stuttered. "I'm Armin."

"Hi Armin, nice to meet you." I held out my hand across the table for him to shake. It was like shaking hands with a feather but that was truthfully expected.

"Thanks." Mikasa whispered. I went to hold my hand out but she immediately stopped me. "I don't need to shake your hand. Germs."

"Are you a germophobe or something?" I laughed.

"No, but my brother is. If I get any germs on me, then he won't share his cookies with me."

"What's your brother's name?" Armin asked.

"Levi."

That name hit me like a ton of bricks. I groaned in pain.

"Eren, are you okay?" Mikasa worried.

The agony stopped but I felt incredibly dizzy.

"I'm okay, I just get these weird head things sometimes. Maybe I just need to stretch."

The second I went to stand up, I fell to the ground. I passed out.

When I opened my eyes, I was in the nurse's office with my mom at my side.

"Mom?" My light hurt my eyes so I started to squint.

"Hey, sweetheart." She moved the hair out of my face. Maybe I could ask for a haircut. "You feeling okay?"

"What happened?"

"You passed out in the cafeteria."

"Oh no." I whined. "It was in front of Armin and Mikasa. Now they'll never want to be my friend."

"Actually," the nurse came in, "Mikasa was the one to grab a teacher. She wanted to make sure you were okay."

She did?

"Mom, I need more extra snacks tomorrow." I panicked.

"Okay," she smiled. "Are you ready to go home now?"

"Go home? But what about recess? I wanna talk to Mikasa and Armin." I couldn't go home yet, I needed to fulfill my mission of making them my friends.

"Sweetheart, you'll see them tomorrow."

"Fine." I pout.

My mom picked up my backpack off the ground and took my hand after thanking the nurse.

We had to walk down the 3rd grade class wing to get to the exit of the school and I kept peaking in the doors to try and find Mikasa or Armin but there was no luck.

Oh well.

Later that day, after a short nap, my mom let me play outside for a while. It's not as fun playing by myself but my parents always say to use my imagination. I went over to my swing set and rested my stomach on the seat and started to push off the ground. I felt like I was flying. I was trying to recreate what I saw in those flashing images in my head. Except they had swords.

"I need swords!" I shouted like it was the best idea in the world. "Mom!" I ran inside to her washing dishes. "I need swords."

"Swords? What kind of swords?"

"I don't know," I shrug, "swords."

"Okay, I'll buy you some swords when you're at school tomorrow." She laughed.

Perfect.
