Eren's POV:
"We need to plan something for her birthday tomorrow." Kuchel whispered to me and Levi at the kitchen counter. She scrolled through pictures on her phone, "I take too many screenshots." She shook her head.
"Of what?" What could a woman in her 30's be doing with a bunch of screenshots? Then again, Kuchel is one of a kind.
"Recipes for this one." She continued to scroll through her phone as she pointed at Levi.
"Me? Why me?"
"Sweetheart, you're a very picky eater." If anyone else knows about Levi's eating habits other than me, it would be Kuchel.
"No, I'm not." He shook his head like it was the most preposterous thing he had ever heard.
"Levi, you don't like cheese." Not liking cheese is a sin. I cannot believe cheese haters exist.
"Too much cheese can lead to a high cholesterol and high blood pressure. I'll pass."
"Honey, you're 16. Not 60." Kuchel laughed.
"It's still gross."
"Whatever you say, Captain." I kissed his cheek and I could tell that made Kuchel happy. I know all she'll ever want is for Levi to be happy and for someone to love him for him.
"Found it!" She silently cheered, trying not to attract Hange's attention who was sitting next to Moblit on the couch in the living room. Hange's interesting because at first you'll think she's one of the guys but then you notice they all have a crush on her and she couldn't be bothered. She doesn't have any interest in a relationship but she loves everyone else's. I have yet to figure out why that is but maybe Levi knows and he'll explain it. How could one love 'love' but not want it for themselves? Or maybe it's because we're still teenagers and she has other things to think about. She's about to be 18 tomorrow so she'll technically be an adult now; maybe her mindset will change. "Look." Kuchel turned her phone and showed us a picture of a cake she had ordered with Hange's name spelt out on top with frosting. "Cute, right?"
"Very." I smiled. She's such a good mom, it warms my heart.
"I'm making dinner too." She seemed stressed. This was Hange's first birthday in the Ackerman household and Kuchel wanted to make her feel as special as she could.
"What are you making?" Levi seemed nervous.
"Shrimp scampi, you'll survive. It's her favorite."
"I know, I know." Levi didn't seem to be opposed so that's good at least.
"I hope she'll be happy with everything." Kuchel sighed, staring at her freshly painted nails.
"She will be." Levi nodded.
"I hate how you have a fight tomorrow. At least it's later at night but still."
"It sucks but it'll be over quick." I shrugged, thinking 'it is what it is'. Kuchel is aware that Levi knows about the fight club. But what she still doesn't know is that Levi has actually been to The Underground, fought Zeke, and has talked to Kenny on multiple occasions. I'm still afraid of what'll happen if she ever does find out, but how could she? I highly doubt anyone would snitch.
Right?
