Eren's POV:

Levi can always tell when I'm lying so I got to stay sharp and smart. I don't like keeping things from him but I want to see what this is about. My curiosity is still at the level of a teenager.

Right after the gym, I went home and took a shower. There's no way he's going to believe me. After I had dried off and gotten dressed, I went downstairs to my mom who was making dinner.

"Are you going to join us for once?" She asked.

I leaned down to look into the fridge and grabbed an apple to take a bite. "Yeah." I said with my mouth full.

"Eren, don't talk with your mouth full."

"Yes ma'am."

"Do you want to invite Levi over too?"

"He's going out to eat with his family tonight."

She looked at me suspiciously. She knows that Kuchel always cooks. They only go out for special occasions.

"What's the occasion?"

"End of sophomore year."

She set her ladle to the side of the pot and turned to me with her hands on her lips. She came up to me and pinched my ear, making me wince.

"What are you hiding?"

"Nothing." I tried to sound as convincing as I could.

"Eren." She seemed much more stern.

"Alright," I rolled my eyes, "Hange has been having extreme anxiety lately because she's been away from the people she grew up with in the foster home and Levi's been trying to help. It's been happening all week but he texted me before and asked if I could come over tomorrow instead."

"Thank you." She let go of my ear. "Go wash your hands, I'll have dinner on the table by the time you get down." I nodded and ran upstairs. I dialed Kuchel immediately. I'm really hoping this doesn't backfire.

"Kuchel, hey, can you do me a favor?" I took my hair out of its hair tie and let it loose so it hid my ears. I'd rather not have my mom catch me again.

"Yeah, is everything okay?"

"Sorta," I was nervous to ask but it needed to cover my tracks. "It's about Kenny."

"Kenny?" She was disgusted. I could tell in her voice. "What about him?"

"He came up to me and Reiner at the gym today. He asked us to go to his little fight club thing."

"You're going and you need me to cover for you."

"Yeah," I sighed and slapped my forehead. "I know it's messed up. Trust me, I know. You know I can take care of myself, especially with Reiner."

"I know you can. But Eren, Kenny is dangerous. Very dangerous. You could get yourself killed."

"Been there, done that. Death doesn't scare me."

"Eren, can you please stop being a smartass and listen to me?" She's never actually reprimanded
me before but I know I definitely deserve it this time. "Be careful." Her voice was calmer. "I know where it is. If you feel like you're in any type of danger, do not try and fight on your own. You call me. Mikasa and I will be there. I won't tell Levi. What do you need me to tell him?"

"Tell him my mom was fed up with me skipping dinner and asked that I stay home for once. She might call you."

"And what do I tell her?"

"Hange is having anxiety and Levi is being a good brother."

"Okay," she sighs, "did Kenny bring up Levi?"

"No. But he definitely knows who I am. He's probably been watching me and took the chance the second Levi wasn't there."

"Of course."

"Eren!" My mom called.

"I gotta go, thank you so much." I felt a bit more relieved.

"Eren. Be careful."

"I know. I'll talk to you soon."

"Okay."

I hung up the phone and ran downstairs. Another realization just hit me like a ton of bricks. I haven't told Levi yet. I sat down at the dinner table and took my phone out and went to his contact.

Eren - Hey baby, my mom is being a bitch and wants me to stay home for the night. She's having one of those "I know you like Kuchel more than me" moments again

My father cleared his throat to get my attention.

"Sorry," I mumbled and slipped my phone back in my pocket.

Let's hope this works.
