Levi's POV:
After some time, I had returned to the top of the wall to check on Armin. The first thing I saw was Eren crying once more with his arms around Armin. I hated seeing him cry. Typically tears would annoy me. But I hated when they were his.
"Bout time." I spoke up. "Eren, tell him everything." He looked sad. A few minutes past and Eren told him what he needed to know. "Okay, are you up to speed now?"
"There are only 9 soldiers left alive. The 9 of us." Armin had said, looking around. Him, myself, Eren, Mikasa, Hange, Jean, Connie, Sasha, and Floch.
"That's what it looks like."
"So to be clear, we resealed Shiganshina gate and secured Wall Maria. I transformed into a Titan and killed Bertolt. I ate him." Eren and I looked at him as he explained what he had just heard with shock and terror on his face. "No matter how you look at it, Commander Erwin's the one humanity needed the most."
"There was a short debate. Your friends argued that you were the one we needed to revive." Truthfully, if it weren't for Eren and Erwin, I wouldn't of cared what the rest said. "It's more like I chose this to be the place where Erwin died."
"So does this mean I need to become Erwin's replacement?"
"There's no chance in hell that you could replace Erwin. Don't let any of us regret this. Not either one of our mutineers here." I grabbed onto Eren and Mikasa's heads.
Hange began to explain how she was the new commander to the rest of the soldiers. But my eyes drifted to Eren. We hadn't spoken since the other night. Not about what happened at least. Hopefully this would help.
The next stop we needed to make was Eren's house. He still has the key to the cellar. We flew down from the wall and walked the empty streets of Shiganshina as Eren and Mikasa led the way.
We had opened the hatch then Eren, Mikasa, Hange, and I made our way inside.
"The key, it doesn't go to this door." Eren's voice was shaky. He looked back at me. It always seems like I need to do everything myself.
"I'll open it." I pushed Eren back.
"Wait, what?" Hange said but it was too late. I was already in position to knock the door down. And that's exactly what I did with one kick.
Eren once told me that he's afraid of me the second I lift my leg too high because he thinks I'm either about to brutally injure him or someone else. He called it 'the kick of death' or some stupid shit like that.
Hange and I looked around the room and only found medical books. This can't be what we've been fighting for.
"Hey. Don't just stand there. Get to work." There must be something here. "Erwin's hunches are rarely wrong."
We couldn't find anything. Then Mikasa accidentally knocked something over.
"Eren," she said. Eren and I turned our heads towards her. "I found a keyhole." The key Eren's father had given him fit. We were all eager to find what was inside. There was nothing inside so I decided to feel around the drawer.
"It's a false bottom," I discovered. "If what we're looking for exists, then we found it."
We stared at the book at the table. I watched as Mikasa reached over to grab the end of it along with Eren.
I thought to myself, "now isn't the time to get jealous, Levi. Especially over something so small. Pull yourself together."
We took what we found and left. We were met with cheers. The people felt safe again. The four of us made our way back to the top of the wall and looked down at everyone. I stood next to Eren and looked at him out of the corner of my eye. He noticed and turned his head toward me. I was already looking back. But as nonchalantly as possible, I tapped my pointer finger on his hand. He looked down at it then back at me as I remained expressionless. He looked back at the crowd so I took it upon myself to intertwine our fingers together. He gasped and looked back at me again.
"Would you quit looking at me, brat?"
"S-sorry." I looked at him and immediately stared at the redness of his cheeks due to an immense amount of blushing.
I need to talk to him tonight.
