Eren's POV:
My mom was waiting in front of the house with her hands behind her back. I got off the bus, holding the railing with one hand and my lunchbox in the other.
"I got something for you." She smirked and then revealed the two foam swords she had behind her back.
"Thank you so much!" My eyes glowed with joy and I dropped my lunchbox on the ground to give her a big hug. I ran through the house and threw my backpack on the couch. I had the swords in my hands and went straight for the backyard. I got into position and started swinging with my stomach to the seat as I pretended to fight all the monsters. I started to spin myself around to feel like I was attacking the monsters from every angle.
"Eren!" My mom called out. I kept flying back and forth on the swing. "Your friend, Armin's, grandpa called. He's going to drop him off at the house soon."
"Yes!" I raised my fist in victory. I laughed to myself hearing that Armin lives with his grandpa. Is everything the same? I had so many questions.
Not long after, Armin came outside to my backyard. I slowed myself down and planted my feet on the ground.
"What're you doing?" He laughed.
"Training."
"Training for what?"
"Just in case," I shrugged.
Just in case those monsters showed up. Why can't I remember what they're called?
A few moments later, Mikasa came in the backyard with me and Armin. It was almost like a weird inside joke. Mikasa and I knew each other from a past life but our memories only went so far. I wondered if she knew more than me. But then we have Armin who doesn't have a single clue as to what we were talking about at lunch today. Will he ever remember? Was it just me and Mikasa? She seems to believe that my dad may know something. Maybe that could explain his weird reactions. But I put off the thought as we decided to play tag. Just the way it was, Mikasa was extremely fast meanwhile Armin was the slowest. So naturally, he kept getting tagged.
"Can we make a rule of no tag backs?" Armin whined and put his hands on his knees. "Aw jeez, maybe I should've brought my inhaler."
"Let's go inside." I suggest. My mom already had cups of water waiting for us. Mikasa didn't even break a sweat, meanwhile I had my hair sticking to my face, and Armin was as red as a tomato.
"I figured you guys would need water. You've been outside for over an hour." Wow, time flies. "Eren, your father's about to be home for dinner."
"Okay." Does she get those flashbacks? "What are you making?"
"I thought your favorite would be nice for such a special occasion." She gave me the 'I'm a cool mom' smirk.
"Cheeseburgers?!" I thought my heart was going to explode. She nodded and guided us to the dinner table.
"Your mom is really nice." Armin said in his usual cheery tone. But I couldn't help but wonder where his parents were.
"Yeah, she's the best." I agreed.
My mom started to set our plates down in front of us. I was beyond excited. Then the front door opened. My dad was home. I wanted him to meet Mikasa and Armin. He set his briefcase down by the front door and walked over to sit at the table.
"Ahh you must be Mikasa and Armin." My father smiled.
"Nice to meet you, Dr. Jaeger." Mikasa said formally.
"Oh please," he shook his head, "call me Grisha."
I felt my head begin to hurt but I tried my best to hide it. Mikasa was clearly having the same thing but in her own way. It seemed like she just closed her eyes. Much less noticeable than pushing the sides of my temples in. My father seemed to notice this from the both of us and he put his hand on my back. He knows something.
Conversation bounced back and forth naturally between the dinner table. Armin asked my father about life as a doctor and how that's what he wanted to be when he grows up. My mother would ask Mikasa if she had any interest in playing sports since she had noticed how fast she ran outside. While Mikasa only had one cheeseburger, Armin had 2, and I had 4. It was expected. Mom was always smart to make extras.
Once dinner was over, I tapped my father on the shoulder and leaned into whisper in his ear. "Do you think me and Mikasa could talk to you about something?" He cleared his throat and nodded. I looked over at Mikasa and she nodded as well.
"Carla, darling." She looked at my father. "I'll be right back, I just need to show Eren and Mikasa something." She nodded. Armin looked upset. He probably feels so left out. But how are we supposed to explain this to him?
We went into my father's study and sat in the lounge chairs he had while he sat at his desk. This was where he did his paperwork and research on weird things.
Mikasa and I looked at each other and awkwardly nodded, not sure how to start this conversation.
"This is about your nightmares, isn't it?" My father asked me and then looked over at Mikasa. "Do you get them too?" She nodded.
"We had an art lesson today and she drew a picture of me and her in front of a fire and she had a red scarf." I said. "These aren't random things anymore. These are flashbacks. My memories. But I don't know when I could've lived them."
"That's because you didn't." He said. "Have you both ever heard of reincarnation before?" We both nodded. "It seems as though we're remembering things from thousands of years ago."
"You see them too?" Mikasa asked my father. He nodded.
"Eren, I think this has to do with you but I'm not sure how yet."
"Me?"
"The timeline doesn't make sense." He mumbled to himself.
"Timeline?"
"Those monsters you're both seeing." He sighed and stood up from his chair. "They're called Titans. They no longer exist. Eren, I can explain how we have these memories. But Mikasa, I haven't figured that out yet. Could be your Ackerman blood."
"What do you mean? Am I special or something?" She asked.
"Yes. You both are very special."
