Eren's POV:
I had left Levi's around 10pm and went home. I was nervously awaiting Reiner's arrival. Dreading it actually.
Reiner - Here
I sighed and opened my bedroom window. I climbed out onto the roof and then jumped down on the grass. Luckily for me, the height of my house wasn't that high. I walked quickly to his car to make sure I couldn't get caught.
"Drive." I said, not wanting to stay a second more. "Do you think you're gonna win?"
"I have no idea who I'm up against so I'm not sure."
I ran my fingers through my hair that reached right above my shoulders and shook my head.
"You can do this. Me and Levi aren't average competition. You've had some good fighters against you. If you can take us on, you can take anyone." I tried to believe it myself. The last thing I want is to see any of my friends get hurt, even if it's Reiner. It's funny how back then I didn't care if he was dead or alive. If anything, majority of the time we were trying to kill each other. But now that Bertolt is gone, I'm his closest friend. Jean and I have been on thin ice lately so I could say the same. Jean is another one that makes me laugh to myself. We would get into actual fist fights and really go at each other. Now look at us. It's just a reminder that this life is really better. I still have my parents, there's no war, no Titans to fight, our home isn't destroyed. When I was 16 back then, I had just decided to leave the Survey Corps in Marley. Now I'm a junior in high school, I'm on the basketball team, I'm finally dating the person I've been in love with for over 1,000 years, and I'm in a damn fight club.
We eventually pulled up to The Underground. We both sat in the car, hesitant to leave.
"Don't get too fucked up, okay?"
"I'll survive." He nodded with reassurance as we both exited the car. At this age, we had killed so many damn people, it was sickening. But now, we're just regular kids. Not so much killing machines. We've acknowledged that greatly. We walked in and it was the same sight as last time except there was only one fighter in the ring.
"Reiner," Kenny walked up to us and tipped his hat, "I hope you're prepared to win this fight." Reiner nodded. "Get up on in there, boy." Reiner and I nodded at each other. Kenny also joined Reiner in the ring. "Well everyone," there was quite a lot of men here to witness this, "we have new meat. The Armored Titan," the men booed Reiner, but of course they'd do that, he's new, "and our reigning champion, Shadow." Reigning champion? This was a fucking set up. Shadow was about the same height but a more lean build. I was getting nervous. "Alright, you two." Kenny backed out of the cage. Before he could shut the door he yelled, "fight!" Shadow didn't hesitate. He was agile and quick. With the help of Levi, Reiner learned how to dodge and counter those attacks. Shadow jumped with his leg in the air but Reiner caught it and swung him. Once he let go, Shadow's back had hit the cage.
"Holy shit, he's doing it," I said to myself and started to smile. Shadow quickly got back up and ran towards Reiner. He swept his leg and knocked Reiner on his back. Wait a second, Reiner is literally the #1 wrestler in the school. Reiner crossed his legs around Shadow's waist. I remember we did that move when we were Titans once. I'm sure it looked really weird from another angle. Especially due to the fact that my Titan was...well...naked. Reiner flipped them so Shadow was on his back instead. Reiner began to throw punches at Shadow's face repeatedly. He held him by the neck to force him down and continued until it was clear he was unconscious. Kenny rushed back into the cage. Reiner noticed and got off of him. Kenny walked over to Reiner and lifted his fist in the air.
"We got a new champion!" Kenny shouted and the crowd did as well. This time with roaring cheers. Kenny's men went into the cage as well and dragged Shadow out by his arms. "The Armored Titan!"
Moments later, Kenny took Reiner into his office. I awkwardly stood outside of it, hoping that no one would come up to me. Eventually, Reiner and Kenny came out.
"Eren," Kenny waved his two fingers at me to come into his office. He closed the door once we were both in. "In two days, we have a fight. You know our agreement. Don't lose, or else. You understand me, kid?" I nodded. He patted my shoulder, a little too hard for my liking. "I'll see you there, Jaeger." I left the office and out to Reiner. We both rushed out of the place and back to his car.
"Bro, you fucking killed it!" I smiled. "How much did you make?"
Reiner pulled out the wad of cash given to him by Kenny. "No one was really betting on me so only $250. But that's a start for sure. I don't know how the fuck that dude was their reigning champion."
"He was literally a wannabe ninja." Reiner started the car and he drove off. "Kenny wants me to fight on Thursday."
"You'll be fine. Just think of something that will get you going."
"Did you think of anything?"
He was silent at first. "Yeah," he said a little quieter, "that was for Bertolt. Always will be."
