Bang Chan above
5 years later...
It was exactly 11:48pm. At that time of night, a dark haired man was crouched before a tombstone, his dark eyes staring intensively at the picture frame resting against it, as if the person in the picture would suddenly come to life.
The person in the picture had a mischievous grin on his face. His dark brown eyes were sparkling with a hidden intent, as if he was about to play a prank. His platinum blonde hair was neatly combed, framing his beautiful face. There were freckles scattered over his nose and cheekbones which made him look so adorable.
The dark haired man couldn't believe that he would never see the boy in the picture again. He couldn't believe he would never hear his voice again, touch him again, eat with him again, hear him laugh again. His heart was filled with so much pain and agony. Even after five years, it was still fresh. As if it was inflicted at that very moment.
"Felix..." he whispered, to no one in particular.
The night was dark. There was no moon and only a few stars were scattered in the sky. The wind was chilly but the man had only a thin white shirt on and a pair of dark suit pants.
The brown haired man standing behind him sighed. He was holding an extra jacket, as he always does every year, knowing his friend would always forget to wear one. He squatted beside him and draped the jacket over his shoulders. "Chris, it's getting late. We should go" he said.
Chan didn't reply. He only leaned forward and gently touched the glass of the frame with a finger, slowly tracing the lips, as if he could actually feel them. Tears welled in his eyes and his throat felt clogged. "Mingi..." he croaked. "If I had listened to Changbin and Hyunjin then, if I had given Felix a chance to explain, would things have been different?"
Mingi gazed at the mournful expression on his friend's face and sighed once more. He asked this same question every year. And every year, Mingi gave the same answer. "I don't know Chris"
Mingi felt that things being different depended on Felix himself. Felix overdosed on purpose. Who was to say that he wouldn't have done it even when given a chance to explain himself? That night, no one could tell what was going on in the boy's mind. To Mingi, Felix was silent most of the time. But he could tell that the love in his eyes were not faked. His feelings were not faked.
But he could not say anything for he also thought Felix was responsible for his Boss's daughter's death. By the time they learned the truth, it was too late.
"They would have been different" Chan said confidently, as he always says every year. "I would not have let him suffer. He loved me so much, Mingi"
There were a lot of things Chan wanted to say to Felix. It had taken a lot of time. At first, he thought it was the guilt. Then came years of denial, but slowly, day by day, it sunk in and Chan couldn't deny it anymore.
Felix's absence made a huge difference in his life.
Mingi felt his phone vibrating in his pocket. He fished it out and frowned when he saw the caller ID. "Taehyun is calling. It's been three hours. We should go back"
But Chan didn't feel like leaving. This was the only time he could spend with Felix. Once in every year. On the same date Felix passed away, Chan would sit before his tomb for hours. Sometimes he would talk, and other times, he would just remain silent. There was also a time he fell asleep. That was the following year after Felix died. It was freezing that night and he was wearing very thin clothes. Chan caught a very bad cold and refused to treat it until it became so bad that he collapsed during a meeting. Mingi had to take him to the hospital and take care of him for a full two weeks.
"Let him wait a bit more" Chan said, not caring about the boy waiting in the car. After all, he spent more than five hours with him everyday.
Mingi switched off his phone so Taehyun couldn't call him anymore. He looked at his friend, full of pity. Chan had changed drastically after Felix's death. In public, he was the all powerful business tycoon. A cold faced calculating president who ruled his companies with keen eyes and an iron fist. Also, one of the most eligible CEOs in the world.
But in private, Chan was the shadow of the man he once was. Nobody could see his pain let alone understand it. He no longer cared about a lot of things and his health was a big part of it. Sometimes, with the way Chan was cruel to himself, Mingi felt as if Chan was deliberately making himself sick so he would just pass on too. It scared Mingi a lot.
Chan buried himself in work all year long, only taking this one day as a break. Their tech company had flourished under Chan's rule and was now ranked number one in the world. It was the only thing that kept Chan from thinking about Felix. And the only person that stopped him from missing Felix was the boy waiting in the car. Though it did little to help, it was still help.
After 30 minutes, Mingi couldn't take it anymore and urged Chan to leave. Chan was annoyed but Mingi reminded him of the meeting they had early the next day. It was very important and he couldn't afford to miss it. Going late would also give a bad impression. Chan didn't really care but the company was handed over to him by his father, Yoongi. So as long as he still breathes, he would do his absolute best to take care of it.
