Hyunjin couldn't help but cry. It was now that he truly understood Felix's feelings. Just because the boy became nice and obedient didn't mean he wasn't hurting. He just didn't want to upset them by asking too much.
But hiding the truth was something they had to do.
To protect him from himself.
"Well I can't anymore" Felix sniffled. "I really can't. And if none of you will tell me then I'll go to Chan. I'm sure that he'll tell me everything."
Mrs Lee froze at the name 'Chan' and everyone tensed. Mrs Lee knowing about Chan and Felix was now inevitable.
"I-I don't think I heard you right" she stuttered, gazing at Felix, confused. "D-Did you just say, Chan?"
Felix nodded. "He's my boyfriend." Then he recalled that he and Chan were dating in high school. "What? Do you have a problem with him that I don't know about?"
Mrs Lee didn't even know whether to cry or scream. "A problem? What I have with him is more than a problem!" she shouted.
She yanked Felix by the collar. "Tell me the truth. Where did you meet him? What is your relationship with him? How do you even know him? You're not even supposed to remember him!"
"Mum it hurts," Felix said, struggling to free himself. The neckline of the shirt was cutting into the back of his neck and her nails were pricking him. "Let go"
"Let go?" she raged. "Let go? I will not let go! Not until you tell me what you're doing with that bastard!
Everyone except Jimin quickly got up and tried to make Mrs Lee release Felix.
"Mrs Lee, let him go," Changbin said as he tried to pry off her fingers.
"We can calmly talk about this auntie" Seonghwa said as he tried to gently move her back but Mrs Lee wasn't ready to stop. She held on even tighter.
"I never thought I'll hear that cursed name from your lips again" she seethed. "Tell me it's a lie. Tell me you're just trying to scare me. Tell me you have nothing to do with that evil man"
Felix couldn't take the pain anymore. He forced himself out of her hold, tearing his shirt in the process. "What the hell is wrong with you mum?! What the fuck are you doing?!"
"What am I doing? I'll show you what I'm doing you insufferable brat!" She shouted, lunging for him but Changbin quickly held her by the waist. "Let me go! Let me teach this brat a lesson! You idiot! You stupid stupid boy! You're such a stubborn fool! Why him? Why that devil?! Come here let me slap some sense into that Godforsaken brain of yours!"
Mrs Lee looked like a crazy woman trying to escape from a mental hospital and it scared Felix. She looked frail and bony but she was giving Changbin a hard time for he trying not to injure her. Her once elegant hairstyle was now ruined, scattered over her shoulders and face. Her eyes were red and her tears had ruined her makeup, making her almost unrecognizable.
Felix's heart was filled with fear and he didn't know what to do. He now realised the reason Chan left. If his mother could react like this by just hearing his name, how would she react if she saw him?
But then, what did Chan do to make his mother hate him so much?
Seonghwa moved and stood in front of Mrs Lee, blocking her from Felix's view. "Auntie, we can explain everything. Felix and Cha-"
An ear-ringing slap landed on his cheek before he could complete his sentence, shocking everyone. His head whipped painfully to the side, his face paralysed with shock.
The sudden slap made Changbin's hold slack and Mrs Lee quickly broke away. The living room became as silent as a graveyard. Only Mrs Lee's heavy breathing could be heard. Nobody knew what to do or say.
Seonghwa slowly turned his face back, staring at Mrs Lee like he couldn't believe it. "Auntie..."
"Shut up!" she shouted. "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" She then raised a finger in warning, gritting her teeth in anger as she glared at him. "And don't you ever put my son's name and that bastard in the same sentence"
Felix couldn't take it anymore. He felt like he had just wasted his time. He didn't even get any information he wanted. All they did was keep asking him questions and now he finds that his mother hates his boyfriend. Well, he wouldn't stand and watch anymore.
Felix wedged himself between Seonghwa and his mum, facing her directly. "Look mum, I don't know why you hate Chan but that's not a reason for you to hit Seonghwa hyung"
"It is" Mrs Lee insisted. "And I'll hit him again if I get the chance. I gave you all a simple task. Take care of my son not feed him to the enemy!"
"Chan is not an enemy!" Felix shouted, frustrated. "Stop insulting him. He's my boyfriend and I will not tolerate another degrading word about him. Not even from you mum. Besides, when have they ever slacked off when it comes to me? They treat me as their own brother. They take care of me better than you have ever done"
"Felix..." she whispered, stunned.
"What?" he continued. "What have you done for me? How did you raise me? You weren't even with me half of my life. I grew up with friends and Mrs Martha. All you and dad did was spoil me with money and gifts. You made me so vain, so self-centred and wicked. You made me think I was supreme and the entire world was at my feet. You both spoiled me to the core and if it weren't for Chan, I wouldn't have known what I was doing wrong. If it weren't for my hyungs, if it weren't for Changbin and Hyunjin, I would still be the same spoiled brat I once was. Can't you see that I'm a better person now? So how can you say that they don't take care of me? How can you hit Seonghwa hyung?!"
