There was a collective gasp then complete silence. Chan's thunderous heart slowly calmed to the normal beat and his eyes welled with hot tears. He sunk to his knees beside the coffin and gazed inside with a shaky smile.
Within the coffin was empty space. Not a single thing could be found. Not even a speck of dust. Chan's fear, in which he kept thinking he might be wrong finally disappeared and the tears of happiness and relief spilled down his cheeks.
Felix was alive!
Felix was truly alive!
Chan's joy knew no bounds. He wanted to jump up and scream. In fact, in his head, he was already rejoicing. He turned to Mingi. "I told you he's alive. Felix is alive"
Mingi had his mouth agape, thoroughly shocked. Never did he think Chan would be right. Not even once.
Hyunjin hugged Changbin and buried his face in the crook of Changbin's neck. He didn't know why but seeing such an emotional side of Chan made him emotional too. He couldn't help but cry.
Changbin hugged him back and planted a kiss on his head. "It's okay baby. Don't cry. You should be thinking of what to tell Chris after this"
Hyunjin just scoffed. "I'm not in the right state of mind. I'm not saying anything. It's all up to you"
Changbin chuckled. "Right. When things get tough, you leave everything to me"
"That's why you're my awesome hubby" Hyunjin said in a coquettish tone. "I'm not capable of handling such situations. You're better than me. I know you'll handle everything well"
The compliment made Changbin swell with pride. "Leave it to me. Don't worry at all"
"I know" Hyunjin pulled back and said with a smile. "I can always rely on you". For more encouragement, he pecked Changbin on the lips then buried his face in Changbin's neck again.
Changbin on the other hand was very happy and was already thinking of what to tell Chan. He just hoped Chan wouldn't make things too difficult.
Since it was now known that Felix was alive, Chan ordered them to destroy the coffin and fill up the hole with sand. He also asked for the memorial stone to be smashed to pieces. Everything that indicated Felix's burial was destroyed and not a trace was left. Chan was very satisfied and only when the hole was completely filled up with sand did he agree to leave.
Chan, Mingi, Hyunjin, and Changbin all went back to Chan's villa and sat at the dining table, ready to eat since they had all missed dinner. There were all sorts of food piled up on the dinner table but no one was eating just yet. It was as silent as a graveyard. Chan was actually comfortable. Mingi was ashamed of himself for not believing in Chan. Changbin's brain was busy conjuring ways to start a conversation while Hyunji. was at ease. Anything that needed to be said will be said by his hubby.
Since no one made a move for a while, Chan picked up his chopsticks and added some lean meat to his rice then poured a small bowl of chilli oil inside. For the first time since Felix's 'death', Chan could actually smell the appetizing fragrance of the dishes. His mouth watered and without any show of politeness towards his friends, he started to eat.
The rest watched as Chan ate with gusto. He added chilli oil to almost every dish he tasted and ate them all without even a sip of water. His face was flushed due to the heat. His eyes were watery and his lips were bright red. He kept sniffing due to the spiciness but not once did he stop. His eating manners were elegant as usual but this time, instead of the usual gloom they had all witnessed in the past, Chan's eyes were bright and he was literally glowing with happiness.
Why wouldn't he? Felix was alive!
Seeing this, the previous tension was washed away and everyone started to eat. The dining room was filled with the sounds of people eating. There were enough dishes for everyone and they all ate with no worries.
Then all of a sudden, Chan spoke, "Did Felix fake his death on his own?"
Changbin choked on the soup he was drinking and Hyunjin bit his tongue.
Mingi, who was busy stuffing his face with rice paused and looked at the two who had on extremely guilty expressions.
"Why doesn't he remember me?" Chan asked, not caring about their reactions. He only wanted answers. "Is he pretending or does he really not remember?"
Hyunjin kicked Changbin's leg underneath the table and gestured at him to speak.
After all the thinking, Changbin decided to tell the truth. He was a bad liar after all and lying would actually get them nowhere. If they actually think about it, Chan had the ability to find out the truth on his own. He had enough connections and resources but they were his friends and Changbin knew that he still trusts them thats why he asked.
"He really doesn't remember" he said then took a sip of water to calm himself. He didn't think Chan would be this calm and sensible. He thought he would blow up and storm to the Parks residence without thinking. "After you took him to the hospital that night, the doctors were able to flush out the drugs and he was saved but he slipped into a coma right after. Mrs Lee wasn't in a good frame of mind and she blamed you for everything. She wanted you out of their lives for good so she planned with the doctors and made it seem as if Felix had passed away. She staged the burial and everything, wiping Felix's existence so you wouldn't suspect a thing"
Chan listened without a single change in his expression. He was as still as a statue, seriously listening to Changbin's every word.
"Felix didn't wake up until three months after and when he did, he could not recall two years worth of memories. That is, everything, including Aera and you were completely forgotten"
Hearing that, Chan's heart sunk to his stomach and he felt as if his entire body was dipped in ice. He recalled the way Felix wrenched his body out of his arms, looking at him like he was a complete stranger. "He really doesn't remember me..."
