Jeongin had just finished arguing with a couple of his workers for breaking some very important equipment they needed to use today. He was exhausted, irritated and furious as he'd have to buy them all over again, with his own money. But that wasn't what infuriated him the most. It was actually the fact that the equipment had to be shipped from Russia and it would take a week or two at most which means the project had to be delayed. Without those equipments, they couldn't move further.
It meant no work for a week. No work for a week was equivalent to being pestered by Felix non-stop. Just thinking about it brought him a massive headache. Ever since Felix learned that he had something to do with the death of Chan's sister, he had been bothering him to tell him everything that happened but evidently, Jeongin refused.
He was afraid that if he did, it might trigger Felix into getting his memories back. And within those memories were secrets only known to three people.
Himself, Felix, and Chan.
And Chan had already promised to expose the biggest secret of all if he becomes the reason for their separation. Jeongin didn't want that at all. He still wanted to be friends with Felix.
He took off his yellow hard hat and rubber gloves, handing them to a nearby worker then walked towards his office. Although the weather was chilly, his orange jumper was drenched in his own sweat for he had been working since 8 am without a break. He just wanted to rest a bit then head home but that plan shattered the second he entered his office and saw Felix behind his desk, going through their record books.
Earlier, when he checked the time and saw that it was past 11 and there was no sign of Felix, he thought Felix had something else to do and wouldn't come but he thought wrong. Felix was dropped by Chan half an hour ago, when he was still scolding his workers.
He groaned and slumped on a nearby chair, pushing back the blonde strands that were sticking to his forehead due to sweat. "You do know that I have someone who does that work for me, don't you?" he said to Felix without looking at him. "He's very qualified. He has a degree in accounting with 5 years experience"
Felix just crossed his left leg over his right, eyes skimming over the numbers as he twirled the blue ball pen in his right hand. "And yet, I, who hasn't even finished college not to mention getting a degree and has practically zero experience has noticed a few errors in your record books of the past year" He smiled and pushed the current book on the desk towards Jeongin. "Someone has been stealing money right under your nose"
Alarmed, Jeongin sat upright instantly. He took the record book and started going through it, seeing all the places Felix had marked. Some numbers really didn't add up. He stared at Felix, stunned.
Felix just grinned, evidently pleased with himself. "Looks like your degree holder with 5 years experience can't do his work properly. You better investigate that immediately. If my brothers and Chan get to know, forget your friendship with them. They'll fire you and hire another construction company"
Jeongin gritted his teeth and slammed the book back on the desk. Then very reluctantly, he squeezed out the word, "Thanks" It was quite hard for him to do for he has been avoiding Felix and giving him the cold shoulder whenever Felix tried to talk to him.
"You're welcome" Felix replied in a cheerful tone. "Though I'd prefer a little bit more than a 'thank you'"
Hearing that, Jeongin turned his face away, pursing his lips, not willing to talk.
The smile on Felix's face disappeared and he groaned, knowing Jeongin was planning to give him the cold shoulder again. "Come on man, why can't you tell me what happened?"
"Why do you want to know?" Jeongin shot back. "Chris already told you everything didn't he? We all drove his sister to her death and he came after us, wanting revenge. End of story Felix. Let it go"
"But I can't!" Felix said, exasperated. "I feel like there's more to this. There's something you guys aren't telling me. Just what is it that I can't know? Why did you guys target his sister? What did she do to you? How did she die? Did you guys really have a hand in everything? Why did Chan forgive you and not the others?"
He was on the verge of tears for those questions were tearing him up inside. From the memories he had recently discovered, he knew that he and his friends weren't particularly good people. He recalled that he used to be extremely arrongant and unreasonable. A playboy and a brat to boot. He didn't respect anyone and he didn't care for anything. All he did was hang out with his closest friends and do whatever he liked.
Felix cringed as he remembered a particular memory of him stealing another guy's clothes while he was in the shower, forcing the boy to run around naked. He shook his head, dispersing the unpleasant memory. "I want to know in full detail, how they died. Rose and Lisa. I also want to know why Jisung left us. We were so close Jeongin. We practically did everything together. I can't be satisfied with that little answer"
He knew his mum didn't want him to delve into the matter about Jisung but Felix was too curious. Besides, there was a little fear deep inside his heart. Fear that since he could recall some memories of them together, clearly in second year of high school, then maybe he too was involved in Chan's sister's murder.
The only thing keeping him from believing it was the fact that Chan and him were together now. It made sense that Chan would never date his sister's murderer right?
But still, Felix wanted to know. He felt like he was blindfolded, desperately grasping onto anything that felt trustworthy, secure.
Jeongin sighed, gazing at Felix with concealed pity. If Felix really learns the truth, Jeongin was afraid he wouldn't be able to handle it. "Look Felix," he said. "These things are in the past. There's no use talking about them now. You should just forget about it"
"But Jisung-"
"Jisung is not coming back okay!" he shouted, cutting Felix off. He stood up, glaring down at Felix. "He's gone and he's never coming back. Just stop thinking about him and focus on your life right now. You have a boyfriend who loves you to death and is willing to do anything to protect you. Go live your life with him and be happy okay. Don't bother me on this topic anymore"
With that, he turned and stormed out of the office, leaving Felix shocked.
"A boyfriend who loves me to death and is willing to do anything to protect me?" he whispered to himself, utterly confused. "Where the hell did that come from?"
