It just wasn't as Chan expected.
"Felix plays volleyball?" he asked, shocked as he watched Felix walk in with his teammates, wearing a blue and pink uniform with the number 10 on it. "He's going to play? He asked me to come and watch a game not his game. When did he start playing volleyball? No. When did he start being active in general? The Felix I know doesn't like any sport"
Hyunjin smiled, amused by how surprised Chan was. "Oh he still hates being active but it was compulsory to play at least one game in his high school and he felt volleyball didn't consume as much energy as the rest so he joined the team and later learned to actually love it. He's been playing ever since"
"Wow" Chan breathed, eyes following Felix's every move. He looked so pretty. "Wait, he went through high school again?"
"Yeah, well he had to" Hyunjin answered. "When he woke up from his three months coma, we realised that he had lost two years worth of memories so it was just the same as he didn't go to high school for two years. At first, his mum wanted him to be homeschooled then get into a good college but the doctors advised to let him repeat it. To let him go out and mingle with people so he won't get depressed. Besides, it's not like he actually graduated from his former school"
"You mean Felix actually thinks he was in a coma for two years?" Chan asked and Hyunjin nodded. "His mum told him he was involved in a horrible accident which induced his coma. Considering his fragile mental health, the doctors also advised against telling him the truth. They said if we did, he'd want to find out more. He'd want to recover his memories and when he does, it will be the same cycle all over again. He won't be able to take it and he'll definitely try to commit suicide"
Chan let out a shaky breath as he recalled the night Felix intentionally overdosed. Because of him. It was all because of him. Because he refused to believe Felix truly loved him. Because he was hell bent on revenge and because he didn't want to fail his father.
"Wipe that self loathing look off your face" Hyunjin frowned, nudging Chan with his elbow. "I know what you're thinking. Stop thinking it. You don't have to do anything for that man anymore. You don't owe him shit. He saved you yes but he also brainwashed you and used you. He took advantage of your gratitude and devotion and made you sacrifice the one person you love but that person is back. He's alive so instead of sitting here and blaming yourself, think of all the ways you can make Felix happy. If you dare hurt him, this time Chris, you'll answer to me"
Chan didn't reply. Instead, he smiled and watched Felix warm up, grateful that Felix had people like Hyunjin and Changbin in his life. Grateful that when he thoroughly fucked up, there were people who took care of Felix and made him happy.
They were sitting on a bench outside the court, specifically at the side where they could see Felix better. Chan had his eyes on him at all times and damn, he looked really beautiful when playing. His brown hair was let loose, flying up and down with the movements of his body. His eyes were sharp and bright with a kind of focus Chan had never seen before. The ball went up and Felix jumped, his body making a graceful bend in the air, spiking it right into the other side of the court.
"Holy shit..." Chan breathed, astonished.
Felix landed on his feet and turned to give his teammates high fives. His smile was blinding and he was genuinely happy.
Chan could vividly remember when such smiles were directed at him. When Felix used to look at him as if he was his entire world. Chan refused to believe it was true then. He convinced himself that Felix was acting. That Felix was incapable of loving anyone. That he was just selfish but how wrong he was. In fact, nobody was capable of loving him as much as Felix did. Chan wasn't sure he loves himself that much. Felix's love was just on a different level.
Things were different now but Chan wanted that smile again. He badly wanted Felix again.
As if Felix could feel Chan's burning gaze, he turned and their eyes met. Felix's eyes lit up and the stuffy feeling in Chan's chest dissipated. He let out a warm smile, hoping to encourage Felix and it did. Chan didn't know but his presence alone boosted Felix's morale.
"Don't distract him by giving him lovey dovey eyes. Let him concentrate on warming up" Hyunjin scolded, jabbing his elbow hard into Chan's ribs.
It made Chan break eye contact with Felix for he turned to glare at Hyunjin and when he looked back, Felix was already conversing with one of his teammates. At that point, the team Felix was playing against leisurely strolled in, as if they owned the court. Their uniform was pure black and it radiated an ominous vibe.
One of the black team players walked all the way to the net and shouted, "Yo Felix!"
Everyone went quiet. Even the audience. They all waited with bated breath to see what would happen. After all, the hatred between Felix and Yeo-sang was known to all in the club. Chan watched with a frown. What did the man want with his Felix?
Felix already knew who it was. He turned, crossing his arms against his chest as he glared at the man. "What is it, Yeo-sang?
Yeo-sang smiled condescendingly. "I hope you brought a pack of tissues with you because a mere handkerchief won't be enough for you to wipe your tears with when I beat you. Again. Like I've been doing for the past three years"
Not wanting to put up with Yeo-sang's shit, Felix rolled his eyes and turned away. "Ignore him" he said to his teammates nonchalantly. "He's a child"
