He was about to turn the guy to look at his face but before he could, someone shouted "Brother!" and a hand shot out, yanking Felix out of Chan's grasp and burying Felix's face in his chest. Seonghwa was panting hard and his face was striken with panic and a trace of fear. That was so close. If Felix wasn't out of Chan's sight, he would not be at ease.
Suddenly being snatched from that warm embrace made Felix annoyed. He squirmed and tried to free himself but Seonghwa refused to let him go and kept Felix's face to his chest so Chan couldn't see. Seonghwa was terrified of Chan finding out the truth. If he knew that Felix was still alive, then all hell would break lose.
Chan was dumbstruck.
Why was Seonghwa being so....protective? He just wanted to see the guy's face. He wanted to see the face of the person who reminded him so much of Felix. It's not like he would snatch him away.
Jeongin quickly joined them as he had thought of a good excuse. "President Park, it's time for me to pick up JJ but I still have work and JJ is really rude to people he's not familiar with. Why not let him go with my secretary to pick JJ?"
He even made some discreet signs with his brows and eyes so that Seonghwa would quickly pick up and play along.
Without a single question, Seonghwa readily agreed and pushed Felix to Jeongin who swiftly dashed off with him, not leaving Chan any chance to object.
Chan watched all this, bewildered. It was obvious that they didn't want him to know who exactly Seonghwa's brother was. But he wondered, what on earth could they be hiding? What was so special about the guy? He was just a person with mental disorder. Or was it a kind of illness that could hinder even a simple introduction?
His eyes darkened as he stared at Jeongin's figure, running away with the guy. He'd have to find out what exactly they were hiding. Especially since that guy smelled so much like Felix.
Other people may not be able to tell but Chan, who had spent so much time with Felix, could tell Felix's scent with just a whiff. His gaze went cold as he stared at the running figures getting smaller and smaller. So many theories came to his mind.
If he guessed correctly, then the Parks must have found out about his mental health and had created a way for some random guy to smell exactly like Felix so he could sleep with him and create a huge scandal which will destroy the image of Min Technologies.
His heart went cold. Surely, rivals would always be rivals. So they could go to such an extent.
Chan let out a small smile and pinned Seonghwa with a chilling gaze. "Well done, President Park"
Park Seonghwa felt goosebumps all over his skin and he subconconcsioisly took two steps back. He certainly wasn't expecting that. Why would Chan look at him like that all of a sudden? Terror overtook his entire body as one thought rang through his head.
Chan had already recognised Felix! He had failed! He had failed to protect Felix!
But then, Chan's next words quickly made him banish those thoughts. "You've gone so low that you're playing old cheap tricks". His eyes were cold and his voice deep and dangerous. "If I see your brother anywhere near me, I'll make sure you regret it"
With that, Chan turned around and walked away, not wanting to stay for even a second more. Mingi, who had been standing quietly ever since, didn't follow. He still had to talk to Hoongjoong.
Seonghwa was quite confused. He had no idea why Chan said those things but it didn't matter. He also didn't want Felix anywhere near Chan. It will be better if those two never meet again.
Even as Chan entered his car, it never crossed his mind that Felix could still be alive. After all, he was there the day Felix was buried and he went through the painful ordeal of watching his coffin being buried six feet inside the earth, never to see the light of day again. Never to breathe again.
He would never forget the feeling of Felix's thin cold body in his arms as he stormed into a hospital that night. He would never forget his bloodless face and blue lips. Nor would he forget the feeling of his rapidly fading pulse. Chan was terrified that night and he couldn't sit still when Felix was wheeled into the ICU.
He was never one to pray. But that night, he kowtowed to every deity in the heavens till his forehead bled. He begged and cried to any Godly being to save Felix's life. He had even made up his mind to leave his Father and go far away with Felix, where both of them will live happily ever after. He wanted to tell Felix that he was sorry and that he loves him but,
Who knew that Felix would never wake up again.
When he heard the long beeping of the heart monitor, his entire world crashed and he went crazy.
Crazy with guilt. Crazy with regret. Crazy with anger.
He was confused. He didn't know what to do. He felt as if a huge boulder was dropped on his shoulders and his heart shattered to pieces. Chan, who had always been cold and strong, broke down and wept bitterly in the hallway of the hospital. He couldn't control his emotions at all.
Only then did he realise Felix's place in his life. Only then did he think that all those past deeds didn't matter. Only then did he think that it wasn't Felix's fault.
He would let go. He would let go of everything if Felix could just open his eyes again.
He wanted to go in and shake Felix awake. He wanted to scream and cry until Felix opened his eyes but Felix's mum didn't let him enter. She didn't let him near Felix at all. He could only watch from the round windows of the double doors as the nurses covered Felix's face with a white sheet.
Chan placed his head on the steering wheel as heavy sobs wracked his body, warm tears rolling down his cheeks like a waterfall. Now alone, in the private space of his car, he sniffed the lingering scent of vanilla on his shirt and squeezed the flesh over his heart tight.
It hurt. It really hurt.
"Felix" he whispered, his voice hoarse and thick with emotion. "Come back to me...."
