"Whether or not I do is not your concern!" Felix shouted angrily. "My messes are not yours to clean up! You have no right to meddle in things like this! We were handling it. We were handling it just fine! Why did you have to go and involve them? We could have taken care of things together! What do you want me to do now? I've already promised Aera that I will clear her name tomorrow. What the fuck will I do tomorrow? Pretend? Lie and hurt her?"
"Felix-"
"For fucks sake, shut up!" Felix yelled. "Shut the fuck up! You've already messed things up by telling them!"
"Language, Felix" Mr Lee warned.
"Oh, you're worried about my vocabulary?" Felix asked, laughing sarcastically. "You should be worried about Aera's reputation, not mine! She's a girl for fuck's sake! A teenager just like me! You guys are going to ruin her life if you don't let me tell the truth! I'm her boyfriend and I'm the one in the video! How do you expect me to sit back and watch her suffer? How can you expect me to do everything you said?"
"Oh baby, honey, calm down," Mrs Lee said as she stood up and went to him, rubbing his arm. "Calm down and listen to us okay? We know you love that girl. We know how much she means to you but if you really think about it sweetie, she doesn't belong in our world. She can't be someone who can stand beside you. She's not even worthy of you. Things between you and her were bound to end because you guys would have to break up in the future anyway. It's better it happens now and she stops thinking she has a place in your life."
Felix was beyond shocked this time. He stared, mouth agape, not knowing what to even say. He thought his parents liked Aera.
"Yeah did you think we were going to let her marry you or something?" Mr Lee asked, chuckling. "Although we're not always here, we know what's going on in your life okay. You two would never have lasted through high school and even if you did, you would not spend the rest of your lives together because I will never approve of a low-class girl as a wife for my son."
"You deserve the best sweetie," Mrs Lee said. "The finest girls in the world. Girls that are up to our standards. You shouldn't settle for girls like her. She does not deserve you. Now look at the kind of trouble she has gotten you in. You're supposed to be living your life out there but she has got my baby thinking and doing things he shouldn't be doing. You should be out there partying and having fun with your mates. Although I wanted you to have the reputation of a perfect gentleman, I didn't mind you being a fuck boy. At least you didn't have to deal with things like this."
"Oh God" Felix was mortified. "H-How can you say things like that? I-I I thought things like that don't matter. W-When I introduced her to you, y-you didn't object. Y-you made me invite her for dinner and you guys were so nice to her. I-I thought you liked her."
"Well, we thought it was just a short-term thing," Mrs Lee said. "Like all the other girls you've introduced to us before or a one-time thing like the girls I've caught you with any time you forget to lock your room. Honey, I saw different girls every time so we just assumed she was the same. What was the use of showing our dislike when she'll be gone in a week or two or even a day? We never thought you guys would stay together for so long. If we had known, believe me, we would have put an end to it long ago."
"So we're doing what we should have done then, now." Mr Lee said. He stood up from the couch and faced Felix. "It's high time you learn to make the right choices son. Look at Jisung, so smart and responsible-"
"Hey, our son is smart too." Mrs Lee cut in, rubbing Felix's arm as she whispered; "Don't listen to him. You're smart."
Felix fought the urge to make a snarky remark. Out of everything going on at the moment, did she think that was what bothered him? Whether he was smart or not?
Mr Lee sighed. "I know. Academically, yes. But in life, I'll have to disagree." He walked closer and stood in front of Felix. "Even the girls he toyed with were cheap. You're Lee Felix okay. Lee Felix. That name means power. It commands respect. It exudes fear. You should learn how to use it to your advantage not waste it on getting cheap girls. You have to learn how to gauge a situation and make the right choices, son. It isn't easy. It's never easy but you have to do it for the good of the family. Never drag our names into the mud."
Felix couldn't believe that their reputation was what they cared about. An innocent girl's life was about to be ruined forever but they only cared about their image. Just what was wrong with them? He couldn't help but cry.
"Learn to make the right choices huh?" He said, facing his father as he wiped his tears. He was trying to stop the tears but they just wouldn't stop. He was so hurt by their words and behaviour.
"Well, I will but not for the benefit of your reputation Dad. I'm going to do it for Aera because she doesn't deserve to go down for this. She didn't do anything wrong. She's not a whore. She's not cheap. She's my girlfriend and what's right is to stand by her and clear her name which I'm going to do tomorrow. I do not care about some stupid status or whether she doesn't 'qualify' according to your standards. What matters is that I love her and I will not stand by and watch her suffer. How can I be your perfect gentleman or sweet boy if I let her suffer, Mum?"
"I mean, why can't you guys just be happy for me? Why is it so hard for you to see a person for who they are and not what they have? Aera is a wonderful girl. Please help me and give her a chance. Clear her name Dad. I know it's something you can do. Make all this go away, please."
Mrs Lee sighed. She couldn't bear to see her son unhappy. She loses all her strong will when she sees him upset. "Oh alright. We'll do it."
"What?!" Mr Lee and Jisung shouted at the same time.
Felix gazed at his mum, unsure. "Really? You'll make everything better?"
