"Since I was young, I didn't know about the issues between Mr Yoongi and his wife. All I know was that they got divorced shortly after we started living with them and she took Aera with her. They settled down in Korea and her mother remarried here. That's how she became a part of your life."
"But I still can't remember anything about her," Felix said. "No matter how hard I try, I can't. My memories are all blurry and I get this splitting headache."
"Then don't force yourself to remember" Mingi advised. "There's a reason that you don't remember so leave it at that. If you're meant to remember, you will.
Felix nodded but he still wanted to remember. He had a feeling there was something important he was missing.
Mingi opened another can of beer and took a sip. "And all that, brings us to the story of you and Chris. Can you remember a trip you and your friends went on in your first year? You guys went to Australia for the holidays."
"I think I can remember something like that," Felix said, trying to recall. "It was the whole group, right? I think it was that time Jeongin got bitten by a snake."
Mingi nodded. "Right. That was when it all started. You guys stayed at our hotel and one fine morning, you started a ruckus in the restaurant because the waiter switched your order by mistake."
Felix went red, feeling embarrassed. He clearly remembered what he did. "Hey hey, that's okay. Just go on with the story. There's no need to say what I did all over again."
Mingi burst out laughing. "The waiter apologised but you weren't satisfied. You said-" He stood up and began to imitate Felix by putting a hand on his waist and talking like him. 'How dare you mix up my order? Do you know who I am? I am Lee Felix. My parents own Lee Corps. I could have you fired for what you just did! Do you think an apology can fix your mistake?'
Felix covered his face with his palms. Damn, he was such a dunce. He couldn't believe he said such things. He used to be so full of himself. "Come on that's enough" he whined. "Forget about that already."
"Oh that's unforgettable" Mingi laughed. "Never thought I'd see the day Lee Felix would change."
"Well, you've seen it. Stop it already" Felix whined. "Why did you even mention that? You saw everything?"
Mingi chuckled. "Not just me. Chris too. We were having breakfast there."
Felix groaned. He couldn't believe Chan saw him too. He was so immature then.
"At first, Chris wanted to step in and solve the matter but when you mentioned Lee Corps, he froze. I think Chris had plans on getting revenge all along but he never thought he'd meet the son of the people who destroyed his family. It was like the heavens wanted to make things easy for him. A huge pie fell right out of the sky and unto his plate so early in the morning. Chris was so shocked that he didn't say or do anything until you guys left the restaurant."
"So I never actually met Chan then?" Felix surmised.
Mingi nodded. "He knew who you were but you never knew him and he didn't let you until he was ready. Chan literally begged Mr Yoongi for help that night. He said he wanted to avenge his parents. He wanted to make your parents pay for what they had done to him. Mr Yoongi was all too happy to help. Lee Corps was a rival company to him. It would all be to his advantage if Lee Corps went down. At that time, Chris was already helping Mr Yoongi manage his businesses. He knew the ins and outs of everything and Mr Yoongi trusted him. He was like his own son so I guess Mr Yoongi just decided to adopt him."
"I see..." Felix mused. "Then why didn't he adopt you?"
"How will I know?" Mingi shrugged. "Maybe he wanted only one son primarily since his only child was taken away from him. I won't lie that it didn't hurt though but that's in the past anyway. Besides, he doesn't treat me any differently than Chris. So, while Chris was planning his revenge, a year later, Aera's mother called and we received the most devastating news of our lives. Aera had committed suicide."
He paused, letting the information sink in.
"Fuck." Felix whispered. He couldn't remember how it all happened but there was this immense sadness he felt whenever it was mentioned.
"Aera was like, the best sister ever." He continued. "She was amazing, funny, cheerful and full of life so you can imagine how shocking it was to hear that she took her own life. We came down to Korea right away and it turned out that everything had happened two months prior but we weren't notified. Mr Yoongi was furious. I mean, Aera was his daughter. How could they not tell him that she was no more? No matter what kind of issues they had, he should have been told. They kept it from him for two months. Two whole months. Aera's mum thought she could fight the case against your parents alone but when everything went in your favour, she gave up and called us. It was too late though. You were already deemed innocent. By the time we came to Korea, your parents had already taken you somewhere remote and they paid a lot of money for the case to be buried. Mr Yoongi had enough money to bring it up again but the system was loyal to Lee Corps. No matter what we did, we couldn't reopen the case. Aera's mum was completely heartbroken and she couldn't stay in Korea anymore so she left with her husband."
"We stayed behind to investigate further. It was difficult but Chris was able to bribe some policemen and that was when we heard the true full story. Her videos had been circulating for weeks. She had been bullied, gone through a series of humiliations in school and we all know the way our society is. She was the victim but no one listened to her. Instead, she was shunned and insulted. She couldn't take it anymore so she ended her own life. On school grounds, right in front of you."
There it was again. The sharp stinging pain in his head. Felix groaned softly, raising a hand to the side of his head. A girl was screaming;
"You did this to me!"
"I hate you, Felix! I hate you!"
