Over the summer I wasn't allowed out of the house. I was even forbidden to step foot into the garden unless I was accompanied. I felt more like an animal each passing day. My head spun thinking how Emelisse would be holding on with everything that happened. I sat in my cold dark room isolating myself from the rest of this dreadful family.

"Jasper..." I heard the door creek open. I sighed annoyed that this girl never wanted to leave me alone.

"What do you want?" I huffed. She was quiet and it only angered me more. "Well is there something you need of me, or will you just keep standing there?"

"I umm.." she whispered. I got off the bed and walked towards her direction. I towered over her and glared at her.

"If you will not speak then get out!".

"I wanted to know if you'd take a walk with me to the garden. I assumed you were in need of some fresh air" she looked down at her hands.

"Bloody hell" I chuckled and slammed my hand over the door frame. She jilted up at my sudden movement. "So what father sent you to come walk me like a dog?"

"No Jasper I just thought maybe you'd like to go outside"

"For what? To keep an eye on me. To make sure I'm not plotting your demise."

"Jasper! Why are you always so cruel? All I want is for you to not to go mad being stuck in here all the time! I'm not a mean person yet you treat me as though I'm a criminal" she poked my chest causing me to lean back. "For your information my father didn't send me. I chose to come here"

"Whatever" I huffed and moved passed her. "Well are you coming or not?"

As we walked outside I could feel eyes on me. They were watching my every move and I hated it. Daria remained quiet not saying a word. I felt the warmth on my face and a slight hint of breeze.

As we circled around the pond Daria tripped over a loose brick and let out a low yelp. I gripped her wrist and held her up. She stared at me once again remaining silent. I pulled her up back to her feet and continued walking.

"Thank you" she whispered from behind. I heard the sound of her heels click faster as she ran towards me. "I never noticed how blue your eyes are"

"Funny, since you always seem to be looking at me."

"I'm just curious about you is all. You don't speak much and well I rather know who I'm actually marrying."

"And you will never find out" she stopped walking and looked towards me. I ignored her and walked back inside the house and into my cage.

As I laid in bed I kept looking at my hands. I was trying to see if I was able to wield ancient magic but nothing seemed to happen. I smiled a bit knowing how angry Mr. Black would be if none of the children his daughter bares could wield it. What was people anyway? Why did they all care about power and status? The world was a cruel place and there was no changing that.

I grabbed the old daily prophet paper out of my drawer and looked at the pictures. I felt a tear escape as I thought about how much I missed all of them. I missed my father's encouragement even if it was sometimes cruel. I missed my mothers kindness and love. I missed my sisters snarky comments even though sometimes I'd wish they would throw up slugs. I ran my finger over Emelisse photo and remembered how wild she was. She never acted proper and never judged anyone. She would often ask the workers to play with her and she'd sneak them dessert without my father knowing. She was really a kind soul and cared about others deeply.

I jumped when I heard a knock on the door. I quickly wiped the tears away and hid the paper under my pillow. "Come in"

"Jasper. We will be attending a masquerade this weekend. I best you know who the Silverstones are considering your family used to attend their unions.

"Yes I am fully aware" I glared at him.

"Good, then be on your best behavior" he closed the door behind him. I threw a glass at the wall and ran my hands through my hair.

The day of the masquerade arrived and I was not in any mood to go inside. I stepped out of the carriage and waited for Daria to grab a hold of my arm. I didn't want to but knew if I didn't Mr. Black would punish me harshly. As we walked inside I noticed a lot of people roaming around and socializing with one another. I couldn't tell who they were since some had masks that would cover their entire face.

"Well good evening Mr.Black. How are you this bright night" I stopped dead in my tracks and my eyes widened in shock. I recognized that deep voice anywhere. That same voice that yelled 2 words and killed my father.

"Ah Mr. Gaunt it's a pleasure to see you tonight, how's your wife?"

"She's well she's with my son Marvolo getting drinks, how are your children."

"They are great. Here this is my youngest daughter Daria and my son Jasper." Daria let go and turned to shake his hand. I refused but Mr. Black laughed and gripped my shoulder. I turned around to see Mr.Gaunt wearing a black mask that only concealed the top of his face. I shook his hand tightly and staring into his eyes. I wanted him to recognize me and I wanted to hurt him like he hurt me.

"I wasn't aware you had another son"

"Yes, he was staying with my brother getting mentored by brilliant wizards to become stronger"

"He does seem like a strong lad indeed. Well done" I kept glaring over to Mr.Gaunt. My hands tightened and I could feel my nails dig deep inside my skin.

"Father, mother would like to have a word with you"

"Yes Ominis. I will be there in one moment" I watched as the blonde boy stumbled a bit but I pushed him lightly so he wouldn't fall. I made sure they didn't notice as I knew how cruel his father would be about his blindness. He looked over at me and nodded. I hated him as much as the rest of his family, but if there was a reason Emelisse forgave him so I would try to reconsider. I looked down at his hands noticing his wand was gone. He also had some scaring under his sleeves which he quickly pulled down. He looked a bit nervous almost as if he knew I was looking.

"Is this your youngest son"

"Yes he is" I can see the fake smile across his face. Once there conversation ended he walked away and I couldn't stop staring at him. Ominis was about to walk back as well but I noticed he was about to crash into a waiter. I grabbed his shoulder and let go once he was able to walk. He looked at me once more and thanked me. I thought back when Emelisse once told me his parents take his wand away in front of company. It angered me to think how his own parents would rather see him suffer than put their pride aside.

"Would you mind getting me a drink Jasper" Daria asked and her father stared at me.

"Of course" I walked over to pour myself a drink. I watched as the rest of the Gaunts laughed and talked to others. How I hated that they were so happy. I hated that they acted like they never killed an entire family out of spite.

"I think you are over pouring there" I turned around to notice a raven haired boy wearing a black and white mask smile towards me.
