Time flies by for school in the afternoon classes, in Saint-Jacques Public Elementary School, after the Bill Nye the Science Guy video on Evolution was over, Ms. Myers explain a little bit of Evolution.
Ms. Myers: Now, everyone. Since we saw the video on Evolution, I would like to tell you all what Evolution is, okay? *They all answered yes to Ms. Myers. * Good, I know we're learning about minerals and rocks, but we will get back to that... I want to say tomorrow, right now I want to show you all what evolution is. *She goes to her computer and types up evolution example pictures. * Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth. Here are some examples of Evolution. *She pulled it up on the projector screen. * Here's an example of Evolution. Evolution is a change in the genetic composition of a population over successive generation. There are the seven stages of human evolution.
Chris: So we were monkeys?
Ms. Myers: You could say that. But actually, Human evolution is the lengthy process of change by which people originated from apelike ancestors. Scientific evidence shows that the physical and behavioral traits shared by all people originated from apelike ancestors and evolved over a period of approximately six million years.
Chris: Oh, so Apelike. Okay.
Ms. Myers: Yes.
Peyton: (raised her hand) Ms. Myers?
Ms. Myers: Yes, Peyton?
Peyton: When did human began to evolve?
Ms. Myers: That's a good question, Peyton. Unfortunately, Scientists still don't know exactly when or how the first humans evolved, but they've identified a few of the oldest ones. One of the earliest known humans is Homo habilis, or "handy man," who lived about 2.4 million to 1.4 million years ago in Eastern and Southern Africa. *A few students oohed at that. In the bakery, things were going smoothly and business is booming as usual, the wall phone ringed. *
Melanie: (putting a small box down) I'll get it. *She walked to the phone and answered it. * Tom and Sabine Boulangerie Patisserie, how can I help you?
???: (through the phone) I would like a chocolate pie, please?
Melanie: (on the phone, getting an order pad and pen) Okay, one chocolate pie. Is that a whole pie or a slice pie?
