I had been approved to be a foster parent when I first fostered Peter. His parents had both died soon after he was placed with me, so I adopted him. I was then able to adopt more kids if I wanted. I thought it would've been a good idea, so here I am. Bucky went with me since he was off and was bored. He was a couple years younger than me. He had just turned 19 and I was 22. I met him in high school, and we have been friends since. Steve was also a contributing factor. I was in a meeting with the boy's social worker. His name was Clinton Francis Barton. After looking at the photo taken of him, I had to do something. He still had previous bruises from whatever he had gone through. We were here to learn more about him. He was in a foster home right now until he got adopted. His social worker came in "Hi Mr Stark. How's Peter doing?". I smiled "He's doing all right. He's still upset, but he's getting better. He made a friend, so he comes over to visit. I try to let him come over when Pete asks since it seems to make him feel better". She smiled "That's good. With all this going on, do you think you're ready to take this case?". I nodded "Yeah, I definitely am". She smiled "Right, let's go over this then".
She opened her file and sighed "Right, Clint Barton. He has some issues, but there's something else you need to know about". I nodded and she handed me a photo of Clint, as well as, another boy. "This is Charles Barton, Clint's brother. He is extremely protective of his brother and Clint is attached to his side" the photo showed Clint hiding behind his brother, who was smiling a little. I nodded "Alright, I can take them both". She smiled "Thank you. Saves me from having to argue with Charles. Listen, these two have been through a lot. They were abused from a young age before being put into the system. They went through more abusive foster homes before we could find one that would not hurt them. Clint is a very explosive kid. He has panic attacks, night terrors, and flinches horribly. It's best not to touch him, especially not during one of his episodes. The only one that should be allowed near him is his brother. Charles is a calmer kid. He was the one that wasn't abused as badly. He coped better than Clint did. It's not clear what happened to them, but it's best not to bring it up". I nodded and handed her the photo back "Were they with their parents before being put into foster care?". She shook her head "No, their parents were murdered when they were younger and they were stolen. They were stolen by the Circus of Crime. After the break in the case, they were pulled out and placed into the system".
I knew this was going to be a rough case, but I couldn't keep letting them suffer. "Because of how old they are now, a lot of the damage done is permanent. Clint has some issues with comprehension, and Charles has an issue with speaking sometimes. At times, he stops talking completely. When this happens, Clint doesn't speak either. The abuse was severe and we only just got them approved to be adopted. Clint is 16 and Charles is 17." I didn't care how old they were. She handed me another photo of them when they were younger. Clint was smiling brightly while holding onto his brother's hand. Charles had a small smile while looking down at his little brother. They were obviously very close, and I wasn't going to be the one that separated them. "I want you to know that this is going to be hard. They both, understandably, have an issue trusting people. They're going to be distant. Even though i've been working with them for a year, they are still iffy around me and don't trust me with anything. If you want, you can go ahead and meet them today" I nodded, excited to meet these two. "Yeah, I would love to meet them" she nodded and stood. "They're staying here. I can lead you to them, but just keep a distance at first" I nodded, understanding why she made this request. I was determined to help these kids no matter what. I didn't care if they wanted help or not, I was going to give them a safe place to stay.

I don't remember the last time I laughed. I cracked a smile sometimes, but nothing more. I noticed our social worker walking over. Barney was next to me and we were on edge immediately. He had moved to stand between her and I. She was with two other men. I hid more behind my brother, but she was the one to step forward. She smiled a little "I have good news. You two are going to be adopted together. The man adopting Clint agreed to let you come with". She was directing her sentence to Barney. Barney had a little more trust in her than I did, so she often spoke directly to him. I was glad for it. I didn't like her. She waved the two men over and I stepped back a little. Barney looked them up and down. She looked a little nervous and the two men had a strange look on their faces. I couldn't quite place it. "This is Tony and his friend Bucky. I believe Bucky is a roommate" the Tony guy nodded in agreement. I glanced at him and he smiled a little. My brother caught his attention "Stark right?". Tony nodded "Yes, Tony Stark" Barney crossed his arms "Why would you want to adopt kids?". He shrugged "I started with Peter, and thought about other kids who also went through rough homes. I wanted to help". I didn't trust him. Barney tensed and I felt something coming "What would you know about kids going through rough homes? You grew up with everything". He nodded "I know, but that doesn't mean I grew up with stability". Barney glanced at me and eyes were on me.
