Cw: bullying (?), mention of violence (overall it's pretty comical)

I know this week has been hectic for my girlfriend so I decided to surprise her today. Wilhemina and I have been dating for a few months now but it feels like so much longer. It took a while for her to open up to me and I can honestly say it was worth the wait. She's treated me better than I've ever been dealt with in the past and I try to give her the same every day. As surprising as it may sound to some, she's mellowed me out a lot.

I used to be a little high strung to be honest but with her I don't need to be that way. She's very protective of me and she has quite the reputation to back it up. Since we've been exclusively dating, not many people bother me anymore. I actually hope to get a job in her building so we can be around each other more and I know that I won't have to deal with idiots either. Well, except for her bosses which she keeps telling me about.

She really doesn't want me to work there, despite wanting me close. She warns me every time I bring it up that she doesn't want me around those 'imbeciles'. I can tell by the look in her eyes that she thinks they're trouble and she just wants me to steer clear. Today I'm going to bring her lunch as a surprise and maybe I'll even see them there so I can get a gauge for their personalities.

Winnie's standards are known to be high so it could go either way; they really could be horrible or maybe they're just annoying. I'm finally at her floor after being in the elevator what felt like forever. I step out and look around, not hearing much. All of a sudden I hear raised voices and I try to pinpoint where they're coming from but in these vast halls it just echos everywhere. I hear a door slam and then the sound of heels approaching.

My posture immediately straightens but then I recognize her pace and relax. She comes around the corner muttering something to herself before looking up and seeing me. Her angry expression softens into a small smile and she gestures for me to enter her office. I close the door behind me as she sits down with a deep sigh.

"I take it the day's not going well"

She scoffs while shaking her head, a sarcastic smile painted on her lips. She closes her eyes as I walk over and sit in the chair in front of her desk. I open up the bag as she takes a deep breath, removing her glasses to pinch the bridge of her nose. She seemingly shakes it off and puts her glasses back on, her smile more genuine this time.

"Better now that you're here"

I smile shyly and try to hide my grin by leaning my elbow on the table and resting my chin in the palm of my hand.

"I brought your favorite — and also your meds that you forgot to take this morning"

I scold her playfully and she grimaces a bit as she looks away from me. I pull them out my bag and place the bottle on the table, retrieving her water bottle from the edge of her desk to place it next to them in front of her.

"Thank you"

I simply nod, continuing to unpack the food as she handles her business. I put her container in front of her along with the utensils and we begin eating in silence. Once I see she's more relaxed I decide to strike up some conversation.

"So... who made my baby so grumpy earlier?"

I knew bringing it up might make her annoyed all over again so I added the little nickname to lighten it. It makes her smile which stays for a while before she speaks.

"Those two cokehead idiots I call my bosses, but what's new"

I smile a bit at her annoyance, it's always been cute to me. I ask her to tell me more about what happened and as she goes on I get more and more upset. Apparently those jackasses thought it would be funny to tease her. When she doesn't take her meds in the morning, she's a lot more grumpy and she also moves slower because of the pain. They were calling her names and joking that maybe she didn't get laid.
