Hello Hello Hello everyone! This is a chapter that's been simmering in my brain for too long and I finally wrote it!

This is the longest one shot I've written so far (It's a little over 14,000 words), no need to rush or read it all in one sitting, but just be aware of that cause I know most of my chapters are usually only a couple thousand 😅

Anywho I hope you enjoy! (Also yes the title is a Billie Eilish song, courtesy of my sister saying I should name one of my one shots after Birds of a Feather)

Chongyun was feeling weird today. He couldn't explain it as anything other than that, he just feels...weird.

Most of the time when something had stumped him, he goes through every possible factor he can think of to see if he can isolate the reason, and usually it works.

The temperature has been up lately, and it only rose with every passing day. That meant he was bringing out his parasol every day now and always has a good amount of popsicles at his side, not mention not training for as long so he doesn't overexert himself.

He guesses that was probably why he felt so weird lately - it had to be the weather. That's the assumption he's sticking with, so off he goes to gather his popsicles for the week at Wanmin Restaurant from Xiangling before he goes back home, perhaps to meditate or study up more on ancient exorcist techniques.

He thinks a nice, long ice bath should do him good for the rest of his afternoon, so his worries fly away - at least for a few seconds.

He makes it halfway down the street before a familiar set of fingers dance across his shoulders and a familiar chuckle fills his ears, and before he can even open his mouth he feels weird again, just from recognizing the owner of said nimble fingers and voice.

"Seems like I made it just in time! I just got out of studying with the new tutor my father got me, and I think you can tell without asking me that it was not my idea of an exciting summer afternoon." Xingqiu chuckles, sticking out his tongue in defiance against his father's attempts to make him study business. "Anyway, where are you off to?"

"I-I'm-" Chongyun stutters, his gaze lingering on Xingqiu for longer than he intends it to. He doesn't know why, but he's feeling almost overwhelmed by just being around him again - could this another factor?

Chongyun brushes the thought off quickly. No way! Xingqiu's his best friend and has been for so many years, why would he be the cause of this icky feeling?

He's gotten feeling of butterflies around Xingqiu ever since he was younger, sure, but this feeling was much stronger than it was back then. There's no way it could be Xingqiu's doing, right? He must just be coming down with a cold!

The more he looks at Xingqiu though, the more he notices his pretty yellow-orange eyes, his slanted, messy bangs over his forehead, and his smile that's making Chongyun's stomach feel like he's free falling - but that's not even why he feels weird.

It's the fact he feels his cheeks getting hotter and uncomfortable warmth crawling up his neck, and how that familiar surge of his Yang energy is immediately triggered just from the little glance he has before he looks away.

He can feel his heart pounding away inside his chest, more than it should by the sight of his best friend, and his face only gets hotter.

He squeezes his friendship tassel at his side to try and calm himself down, taking a deep breath to answer Xingqiu - he's probably been keeping him waiting too long anyways - but the lingering feeling of his Yang energy is still there and ever present in his gut.
