This is a modern highschool au btw
Chongyun likes the color blue.
Scratch that - Chongyun really likes the color blue.
Just from taking a look inside his room and marveling at the blue bedsheets, walls, pillows, and more, it didn't take a genius to figure out it was his favorite color.
It might also explain why he was so fond of Xingqiu, since the other boy was always covered in blue.
His hair was blue, his earring was blue, his blazer he wore to school was blue, his backpack was blue - Chongyun could go on.
But unfortunately for him, exam week was taking up all of his time and energy, and he rarely has time to think about the color blue.
Instead, he scribbles away at some of his worksheets while simultaneously flipping through the pages of his textbook and brushing his bangs out of his eyes every so often to the point it was getting awfully annoying.
He knows he needs a haircut, but he just hasn't gotten around to scheduling one, and so he was stuck like this until he does.
"Are your bangs bothering you?" Xingqiu laughs lightly in front of him, leaning over his chair to rest on the other end of Chongyun's desk. His own bangs are neatly combed to the side, leaving perfect view of his bright orange eyes. Chongyun always thought they were pretty.
"Y-yeah, a little bit. They just won't stay out of the way..." Chongyun blows at them before grumbling unhappily when they eventually flutter back down to his face.
"Maybe you should get some sort of hair accessories then. Those should keep it out of them way." Xingqiu suggests, rolling a pencil back and forth. "Like hair clips or something."
"Maybe...I'll see if I remember to get some after school." Chongyun nods tiredly and continues to write on his papers when his bangs slip down to cover his view again and he groans.
He can hear Xingqiu laugh on the other side of his desk at his complaints before he's caught off guard and Xingqiu leans forward a bit. "Here, I've got an idea-"
Xingqiu lifts his bangs for him and holds them against his head, the warmth of his palm making Chongyun do anything but cool down.
His heart is racing and doing this weird fluttering thing it never has before, and he can feel heat crawling up his cheeks as Xingqiu sits so close and keeps his hand right against his skin, no doubt being able to feel his sudden rise in temperature.
"I'll hold them here for you while you study. I've already finished all of my work." Xingqiu smiles at him.
Why is his smile making his heart beat faster?!
"Won't you be bored though?" Chongyun says, trying to combat the sudden fluttery feelings in his stomach. "The class doesn't end for another 15 minutes."
"That's fine with me. I don't mind looking at you for that long." He says teasingly while Chongyun burns a hole on his desk with his eyes, not being able to make eye contact with Xingqiu any longer. "After all, I think your bangs look pretty nice this way. Maybe you should slick them back one of these days."
Chongyun makes a mental note of Xingqiu's compliment in between his blushing fit, finally looking back at his paper.
He feels like he hardly gets anything done for the 15 minutes, and rather he feels much more distracted by Xingqiu and all the different pretty shades on blue on him.
Blue had always been their color, Chongyun usually donning a lighter, baby blue while Xingqiu was always drenched in royal navy. He usually had lighter blues on his too though, like the ball of his earring that glittered from the warm sunlight streaming in through the classroom windows or the little diamond gem with gold around its edges that he always had attached to the base of his tie.
