Chongyun happily trudges through the mounds of snow on DragonSpine with a less than happy Xingqiu huddled in his arms.
"Aren't your arms tired, 'Yun?" Xingqiu asks, his words accompanied by puffs of cold breathes in the air.
"No. I'm alright, so long as it stays this cold." He reassures him.
"Okay, but do let me know if you can't carry me any further. I don't mind walking for a bit." Xingqiu mentions quietly.
He knows that his words are nothing but lies, but he still feels bad that Chongyun's carrying him through the ice and snow simply because he hates it (though it really just shows how much Chongyun loves and cares for him, if anything).
He hated the cold a lot, and Chongyun knew this fact full well and had for years. That's why anytime Xingqiu offered to come with him to DragonSpine or agreed to his requests to have him along, he was more than eager to accommodate him as needed, so long as he came with him.
Before long, they'd reached a place on the outskirts of DragonSpine, where the fluffy snow met the lush grasses of Mondstadt.
The exorcist gently lets Xingqiu down from his arms, and Xingqiu goes to sit in the grass while Chongyun makes himself comfortable in the snow.
"Thanks again for coming with me." Chongyun says while he situates himself. He had wanted a trip to DragonSpine after all of the blistering hot days in Liyue, and the freezing temperatures were a breath of fresh air for him.
"No problem, my liege. What say I make up a story? The calming atmosphere is most inspirational." Xingqiu notes.
"I'd like that. Your stories are my favorite." Chongyun says quietly, laying down in the snow while Xingqiu blushes and looks around for a good start.
"Once, in a freezing tundra swept far, far away from any surrounding civilizations, there lived a boy of snow and frost." Xingqiu began.
"The boy quite enjoyed the cold, and was content on staying in the tundra, but one day, a fiery, red figure came through the snow, melting the ground beneath him. In alarm, the snow boy asked him to stop, and the fire creature did, fascinated by him.
The snow boy found that the other was from a hot place where lava flows all throughout the land, and he found his stories from his homeland interesting, also finding that he, too, was another nice boy, but of a different element.
When the fire boy decided to leave, the snow boy asked if he'd ever see him again, and the fire boy did not know. He told him, "I hope we get a chance to meet again, sometime in fate", before he set off again.
The snow boy was now sad and alone, without the other boy to keep him company. Despite being entirely made of snow and cold, he felt a warmth that had not been there before, and he wanted to go and share it with the fire boy, no matter the cost.
So he set off for the land of fire and lava, finding that along the way, he was melting. This did not deter him from his mission however, and he kept moving towards the other kingdom.
Once he reached it, the fire boy begged him to go back upon seeing him, but the snow boy had to share what he was feeling. The two discovered a mutual feeling for one another, a desire to be together despite being from two different worlds.
While the snow boy melted away, the fire boy held onto him, and the cold diminished his flames, and they both ceased to exist.
Not long later though, did a small plant grow, and from this plant grew beautiful flowers, ones that the world had never seen. These flowers became a symbol of beauty and love, one that cannot be matched by any little crush or silly liking; it was for everlasting devotion, to one you cared most for and about."
Xingqiu ends his story, and Chongyun sits up to find that Xingqiu had carefully woven a flower with his hydro vision in his hands, the 'vines' curling around his fingers and snaking down his arms.
"Woah." Chongyun's gasps. "Can I.... Can I touch it?"
Xingqiu nods, and when Chongyun reaches to touch one of the petals, the whole flower instantly froze, the water halting in moving about.
His breath hitches and he looks at Xingqiu guiltily. "I'm so sorry, I didn't realize it would do that!"
Xingqiu carefully maneuvers his hands out of the vines and sets the frozen flower down in snow, with the vines trialing out into the grass.
"There's no need to apologize, my liege. I think you made it look even prettier." He smiles.
Suddenly, the cold wasn't bothering him, and he didn't mind the feeling of the smooth, slippery ice against his hands when he traced them along the flower.
It didn't bother him the whole way home when Chongyun again carried him through the snow, and then again when his hands were cold and he held his for warmth.
Even if he doesn't like the cold (and he still doesn't) he'd gladly endure the biting frost against his skin when he walks in DragonSpine everyday if it were for Chongyun.
He was what made the cold so bearable, after all.
