Here's a semi-modern au where everything's the same but Chongyun still goes nuts when he overheats
Chongyun sat up in bed, groaning at the headache he had accumulated.
Looking up, his significant other was sitting in the chair on the far side of his room and reading, presumably waiting for him to wake up.
"Xingqiu?"
The navy haired boy perked up and went to pull his chair up beside the bed.
"Good morning Chongyun. Do you feel better now?" Xingqiu asked.
"No, not really, I've got a big headache... hey, what do you mean by that? Did something happen?"
Chongyun gasped, realization washing over him before he buried his head in his hands, only creating a space for his eyes.
"Did I overheat?" He asked worriedly.
Xingqiu hesitated before nodding. "I'm afraid so, my liege."
Chongyun fell back on the bed and groaned. "What happened?"
"Do you want to hear the whole story?"
"Yes."
"Alright. Well, it all transpired when we went to the beach yesterday..."
**********************************************
The day before, Chongyun, Xingqiu, and Xiangling had all planned to go to the beach after a long week.
Xingqiu and Xiangling set up a beach towel for their things, and Chongyun put up a parasol to keep himself out of the heat.
"You're not gonna come in the water Chongyun?" Xiangling questioned.
Chongyun looked out at the water fearfully. "I don't think it's a good idea. What if I overheat?"
Xingqiu pulled the parasol out of the sand and tucked it firmly into the other boy's hands.
"There, now you can have the cool of the water and the shade." Xingqiu declared, putting his hands on his hips.
The three headed out to the water with a beach ball, and all took turns throwing it to each other (Chongyun just hit the ball with his parasol), when it few farther out along the shore.
"I've got it." Chongyun said and waded through the water over to the beach ball.
As he struggled to pick it up though, he heard the yell of a child as it suddenly ran into him, knocking both him and his flimsy parasol over.
"Oh my goodness, I am so sorry!" The child's mother said, pulling the kid away.
"I-it's okay, I just need my-"
He looked around for his parasol, only to find it soaked and ruined as he pulled up the torn and soggy pieces that were left.
"I'm so sorry about your parasol young man, perhaps I could-"
Chongyun didn't wait to hear her out and instead ran off to his friends at lightning speed, pulling the hood of his sweatshirt up in a desperate last attempt to stay cool.
"Xingqiu! Xiangling!" He yelled.
The two stopped their conversation to turn and look at him, surprised he was yelling.
"What happened?" Xiangling questioned.
"M-my parasol, it got ruined!" He exclaimed.
The other two looked at him in horror, before rushing up to him.
"I'll go try to find a new parasol!" Xiangling said.
"And I'll go acquire some popsicles for you!" Xingqiu declared.
Xiangling ran off down the beach while Xingqiu grabbed Chongyun by the wrist and took off to find some kind of popsicle or cold food.
But as they took off across the sand, suddenly Xingqiu's hand became empty as the other's left it.
He turned back to watch as his boyfriend ditched his jacket randomly on the sand and headed straight for the water, laughing excitedly.
"Chongyun!" He yelled after the other, taking an immediate U-turn back to the water.
"C'mon Xiangling!" He mumbled under his breath, wishing for his female friend to return with a parasol.
He waded into the cool water, searching for the icy-haired boy, when he felt two hand grip his ankles and pull him down.
"Ahh!" He yelled, falling down and getting soaked.
Moving his now wet, uneven bangs aside, he saw the other sitting down in front of him with a large grin on his face, far bigger than he normally had.
"Did I get you?" He asked with a grin.
Xingqiu sighed. "Yes, Yun-Yun, I didn't see you at all. Hey, how would a popsicle sound right now? Good? Or maybe getting in the shade?"'
Chongyun pouted at the suggestion. "Qiuuuu, that doesn't sound very entertaining. Speaking of which, where did our beach ball go-?"
Chongyun turned to look for their missing beach ball, which Xingqiu knew was well down the shore by now.
"Are you sure, my liege? What if..." Xingqiu tried to think of something to get the other boy to come with him.
"What if, we do whatever your heart pleases? Hm?" Xingqiu asked, trying not to sound too much like he was pleading.
"Really?" Chongyun piped up happily, reminding Xingqiu of an excited puppy.
"Yes, and whilst we do that, should we grab your sweatshirt as well?" Xingqiu asked him, while slowly pulling him out of the water.
"Sure!"
Once in the sand, Xingqiu looked about until he found the other's sweatshirt and gracefully handed it to him after shaking out the sand.
Chongyun took it only to frown at it once it was in his arms.
"Eh, I don't really need it Xingqiu. Here, you can have it instead!"
Chongyun draped the sweatshirt over his flustered boyfriend's shoulders, slipping the other's arms through it and pulling the hood up for him.
He stood back to admire his work before breaking out in a big smile again.
"You look really good in my clothes, Qiu. You should keep the sweatshirt, it looks good on you. Now come on, popsicles!" He yelled, taking off as the other trailed behind him.
**********************************************
"Then what happened?" Chongyun asked miserably.
"Well, you gave the nice man who was selling the popsicles an awfully hard time. You were asking a lot of personal questions, and even started singing for him. By the way Yu-Yu, you're a pretty good singer. I bet you could serenade me~." Xingqiu said, trying to make light of it.
"I must apologize for what I did, not only to him but to Xiangling as well. Oh, and you of course. I really hope I didn't make you uncomfortable." Chongyun apologized.
"No need, Chongyun. I actually quite like your flirty side when you're like that. It's interesting."
"So you like that me better?" Chongyun asked sadly.
"No no, you misunderstand me! I find the other you quite intriguing, but that's also not the one that will remember everything once they wake up. I like you just the way you are. And besides, you're far cuter when you flirt awkwardly like you do normally. I like it." Xingqiu grinned.
"Xingqiu..."
