55 - Conversation Hearts

This takes place in a modern high school au btw

Xingqiu walks throughout the isles of the convenience store, perusing all of the shop items. Chongyun had treated him to pick out something from the store since he wanted to stop by for a popsicle, and Xingqiu couldn't quite decide what he wanted to buy.

They didn't exactly have books, and he wasn't very hungry or thirsty, either. He walks down the stationary isle with notebooks and pencils, and his eyes catch on the sign at the end of the isle that reads discount: Valentine's Day Stationary 75% off.

Valentine's Day was already well over a week ago, and looking at the sign made him remember how badly he'd been dying to tell his best friend that he liked him just so he could spend the holiday with him like other couples did.

After all, it wasn't exactly easy watching all of his other friends happily waltz around with their partners while he and Chongyun went on a friend-date to the carnival to waste the day away. The whole experience had made him feel even more single, to say the least.

While he glazes over all the items ranging from heart pens to red, pink and white notepads, his eyes stopped on a little clear package that contains multiple conversation heart stickers.

They were thicker and made out of foam, and came in a variety of colors and messages, and it was then and there that Xingqiu had decided enough was enough and took the bag from the shelf and went to go find Chongyun at the cash register.

"Did you find something?" The other boy asks absentmindedly while setting his wrapped popsicle on the counter.

"Mmhmm." Xingqiu hums, setting the small bag up on the counter to be rung up and scanned.

Luckily for him, Chongyun didn't seem to notice or even really care what he got, and so when they finally made their way outside, Xingqiu was able to rip open the bag discreetly and take a look inside.

He sorted through the stickers, trying to find the right one to start off with, before picking out a green heart with purple lettering, peeling off the white seal on the back and sticking it onto Chongyun's wrist.

Chongyun stops halfway into chewing his bite of popsicle to turn his arm and read the little conversation heart that reads 'HEY' in purple lettering.

"Hi?" He says, looking at Xingqiu in confusion.

Xingqiu pouts in dissatisfaction to his reaction and pulls out a teal heart with red lettering instead, this time sticking it onto his cheek.

Chongyun squeezes his eyes shut when he does and carefully peels the sticker off his face. "Y'know you can just show it to me, right?"

Xingqiu gestures for him to read it, and Chongyun sighs before reading the little heart that has 'UR CUTE' written on it.

"Now you're just teasing me." Chongyun shakes his head, looking away in embarrassment.

Xingqiu rolls his eyes at his obliviousness and takes out another heart, pressing it to the tip of Chongyun's nose.

"H-hey! Stop putting them on my face when I'm not-"

Chongyun stops in his tracks when he takes off the pink heart and reads the 'BE MINE?' written in white letters on it.

"...You're joking, aren't you? Ha-ha Xingqiu, you really got me for a sec-"

"I'm not joking, Chongyun."

Chongyun stops walking to look at him in shock. "You're not?"

"No, I'm not."

"...You really want to be with me? There's plenty of people at our school that like you already, a lot of people that are way cooler than I am, and-"

He's interrupted again by Xingqiu smooshing another heart on his forehead for him to look at.

'YOU ROCK', it reads in pink lettering on a red heart. Chongyun smiles at it and grabs the bag from Xingqiu, sifting through it to put a blue heart on Xingqiu's cheek.

'TY' it reads in yellow.

Xingqiu laughs and grabs Chongyun's hand, and the two of them walk back to Chongyun's house to say goodbye.

"See you tomorrow then?" Chongyun asks once they make it to his door.

Xingqiu nods and places an orange heart with dark pink letters on Chongyun's lips before waving him goodbye.

Chongyun blushes and takes the heart off, burying his head in his hands once he reads the lettering.
