So I'm rlly tired rn but I wanted to finish this, so I'll publish this now and then revise it later. If there are a few weird wordings with the story that's probably why btw just wanted to let you know
Edit: I just went over it 👍
It was a typical Monday morning at school for Xingqiu, in that he was headed straight to the library in search of new novels to lose himself in.
He grazed his hands over the books' spines and drumming his fingers on the shelves in anticipation, awaiting for a certain title, description, or even colour to pop out at him and implore him to read its pages.
It was still quite early, half an hour before classes started, so he had the whole library to himself (or maybe that was just because nobody else had the same fascination with books and reading that he did.)
He moved from one shelf to another, going about the process of studying the books once again, when he heard loud foot steps coming from someone thundering into the library.
Xingqiu dismissed it as simply the librarian, Lisa, coming back from consulting someone about their overdue library book (she was very explicit in the fact that they must be returned on time), but he soon found that not to be the case.
The navy-haired boy had been looking at the books on the first bookshelf upon entry into the library (besides the one adjacent to the door) and on the side where one couldn't see him.
Soon though, he was no longer alone on his side of the shelf and was met with a familiar boy with a head of messy blue hair and a fearful expression on his face.
The boy was Chongyun, Xingqiu's dearest companion (and holder of Xingqiu's heart and all his affection, but he doesn't need to know that-).
Panting hard, he peeked around the side of the shelf before quickly pulling his head back behind it, eyes widened in fear like a cat's.
"Chongyun, what's the matter? You look like you've just seen a ghost!" Xingqiu asked playfully.
The other boy's icy eyes turned to stare fearful daggers at him that sent a shiver down Xingqiu's spine, clearly not wanting him to say another word.
"Chongyun," Xingqiu starts with a pout, "If you want me to be quiet, i'd quite appreciate it if you'd tell me wh-"
Before Xingqiu could finish his thought, he found himself trapped against the bookshelf by the other boy, with one of his arms pressed against the shelf preventing him from escaping that way.
Chongyun's other hand was held up against his own lips, with his index finger pointed up in a way to say be quiet! without verbally saying it.
"But wh!-"
He was interrupted once again, this time by the other leaning in closer and audibly holding his breath as they both heard a loud voice from the hallway.
"Aiya Chongyun, you can't run away forever! We haven't finished discussing that top-secret-thing-that-no-one-can-know-about!"
Hu Tao's voice echoed in the hallway and continued into the entrance of the library as she walked across the carpet and stopped just before the shelf.
"Oh well, if you're really not in here, then I guess I can tell Xingqiu about that top-secret-thing-no-one-can-know-about." She said before Xingqiu felt Chongyun tense up.
Xingqiu quizzically looked at the other boy as if to ask, "What is she talking about?" only for Chongyun to give no reply in expression, only that of him seeming to grow more and more nervous.
"Oh Xingqiuuuu, are ya in here? I have something to tell you." She called.
After a few moments of no reply, she mumbled a few words neither of them could hear before leaving the library, allowing Chongyun to relax himself and pull away from the other.
"That was a close one..." Chongyun sighed, speaking for the first time their entire interaction thus far.
"Chongyun, are you going to tell me what this is all about? More specifically, that "top-secret-thing-that-no-one-can-know-about"~?" Xingqiu asked in a teasing voice.
"O-oh, that? It's nothing important, really, just ignore Hu Tao. She likes to blow things out of proportion, so-"
"Are you sure? She seemed to be perfectly fine with telling me. Hmm, y'know what? I'll just go ask her. That way, you don't have to trouble yourself or your voice. I wouldn't want for it to run dry. After all, its my favorite sound~" Xingqiu laughed, heading towards the library's exit with Chongyun following him in a flustered panic.
"Wait, you don't have to do that!" Chongyun said, grabbing the other by the arm.
"Oh?" Xingqiu questioned.
Chongyun looked down at the floor, seemingly caught in his thoughts. "I...I guess I can tell you, but not right now. Definitely not right now."
"Then when? I can ask Hu Tao, it's really no trouble at all-"
"No! I mean, I will tell you, just not today, alright? But I will, I promise." Chongyun affirmed with a nod of his head, more so telling himself that his words were chosen correctly.
"Okay, my liege. But you must promise that you will tell me soon. I can't bear the suspense!" Xingqiu said dramatically, draping himself over the other's arms.
"Okay, promise." The other replied with a small smile and a light blush on his face.
He checked to make sure the coast was clear before leaving the library himself, leaving Xingqiu back to doing what he was before being interrupted.
"I really hope it's okay... just as long as it's not something that breaks our friendship." Xingqiu said quietly to himself, picking up a random book from the shelf he was nearest to.
The cover had a boy and a girl on it, holding a hand out to each other, but not quite reaching the other's grasp.
Xingqiu chuckled. "Though I really wouldn't mind if it were to confess your romantic feelings to me. That'd be even better."
