Chapter 98

The gang finally made it to the snow-blanketed Shiver City. The town was filled with penguin residents in the area.

"So, this is Shiver City," Mario said.

"Let's try asking around about Starborn Valley. We might be able to find some answers on how to get there," (Y/N) said.

As everyone asked around, they learned that the route there was blocked due to someone suspicious entering the area.

When they entered a certain house, they were greeted by a lilac female penguin wearing an apron.

"Oh, we have guests! Welcome! You poor people, you must be freezing! If you'd like to see my husband, he's in the other room. Please, go right in," she said.

"Sure. We'll take you up on that," (Y/N) said as Mario went inside the other room.

"Oh, right. Before that, ma'am, we have to ask. Do you know anything about Starborn Valley?" Goh asked.

"Starborn Valley? Hmm... Well, I've heard of it, but I've never been there. Sorry. But my husband should know more about this. Follow me," the female penguin said as she opened the door to the next room.

Suddenly, to her shock, she found not only Mario, but also her husband lying on the ground, unconscious. She went up to her unconscious husband and suspected... he was murdered.

"Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!" She screamed before running out! "Help! Somebody help! Anybody! My husband is dead!! He's been murdered!"

"Mario! What happened to him?" Ash asked.

"I don't know. He was like this when I got here," Mario said.

"I mean, you're not wrong. There's no way Mario would murder anyone, right?" Goombario said, making everyone nod.

Then, in the room came the female penguin and a green penguin wearing a hat.

"My husband is dead! Look at him lying there! Oh, my darling husband!!! Somebody clipped his flippers!!" The wife cried.

The green went up to the body to investigate. "By puffin, you're right! The Mayor's been murdered! This is like a mystery novel! Except it's real! How tragic! But madam, if I may ask... Who on earth would have reason to put this penguin on ice?" He said.

"Him! Right there! That man with the suspicious mustache!" The Mayor's wife said, pointing at Mario. "I told him not to come in the house, but he barged right in! My husband was alive right up until this man showed up!"

"Wait a second. So, you mean to tell me... you never wanted people visiting, is that it?!" Eve said, insulted. This made the Mayor's wife flinch.

"How insulting! Mario would never do something as to murder anyone!" Bow said.

"That's right! And you can't just go around jumping to conclusions without any solid proof and you know it!" Goombario said, making the rest of the heroes nod.

"So you're sticking to your story, claiming your mustached friend is not the culprit," the investigator said.

"That's right! We've known Mario for a while and we believe that he wouldn't kill anybody!" Ash said.

"Pikachu!" Pikachu cried.

"And if that isn't convincing enough for you, how about this? What if we start finding evidence around the town to prove his innocence?" (Y/N) said.

"Alright. Since you claim that he's not the guilty party, then you must bring me the murderer yourself! If you do that, I'll believe you. It's the only way..." the investigator said.
