Maine woke up as early as four in the morning. She was not able to sleep well because she is racking her brain of what is the reason why Tatay and Nanay wanted to talk to her. She has really no idea. And that's one of her fear, the unknown. The last time she felt this was when she chooses her course in front of her parents. She really wanted to tell them, she wanted to take Mass Communication, coz she really wanted to be on the writing department. But she chooses what their family needs to make them proud. She dressed up already and texted Paolo. She just dressed for a long drive... A spaghetti dress and a cap... Untied hair, unkept, giving her an aura of being carefree...

As per agreement, Paolo met her downstairs. Taking her Mirage, she drive out of the building. Her motorbike is already parked at the house as she took Grab last night upon delivering it to the house after her stunt. Paolo took her lead and follow her car. They were at NLEX, after thirty minutes of driving. They've decided to take their breakfast before continuing their way to Maine's house. They ordered their usual menu...
Paolo: Maine, why did you dress up as Miss Tapia in the office?
Maine : I don't know, maybe because I am tired of office gossipers that I intend to be on low key. Maiba lang...
Paolo : Tell me honestly, bes... What's your story, I mean about Richard?
Maine : He is a walking asshole. He judged me right on the spot.
Paolo : Care to share?
Maine : Maaga pa para mabad-trip ako, bes... Kailangan talaga ngayon?
Paolo : OK, tell me when you are ready na lang... But I was with him yesterday...
Maine : Talaga??? You are into his type na ba?
Paolo : Bes, hindi ano ka ba? Wiz ko type ang jowabells mo!
Maine : Anong jowabells? Tigilan mo ako kung hindi iiwan kita dito... Hindi ko type ang mga asshole na katulad niya no! Zild, Nada!
Paolo : E bakit lumalaki na naman yang butas ng ilong mo?
Maine : Kainis ka kasi e... Ang aga-aga binadtrip mo ako!
Paolo : I'm just curious. Malamang heart attack pag nalaman ni Richard na ikaw ang secretary niya sa opisina... Hahaha... Hindi pa siya nakakaporma, screwed up na siya... Hahahaha...
Maine : Malamang! Kaya make sure na huling pagkikita na namin yun as Dei kasi baka madamay ang trabaho ko pag nagkataon... Lagot ako Kay Tatay... Speaking of Tatay, bakit kaya niya ako pinatawag?
Paolo : Wala ka ba talagang ideya? I mean, not even a hint?
Maine : Wala talaga... At kinakabahan ako...
Paolo : Pray that it is not serious... Let's go na, alamin na natin and be over and done with...
And off they went to Maine's residence. Mr. Mendoza greeted them upon arrival. They told Maine and Paolo to join them in breakfast, however the two refused the breakfast and agreed for a coffee instead. The breakfast went smoothly and the vibe is relaxing until Mr. Mendoza called Maine in the study room. Maine prepared for the worst but nothing prepared her for a nuclear bomb!
"Maine, I have called you to inform you that you are to take the full responsibility on handling the RFJ Group of Companies!" Mr. Mendoza said...
"Huh? Wait... What???" Maine was so surprised, she was rendered speechless...
"Mr. Richard Sr., sold his 15% share of stocks to Mendoza Company, giving us at least 65% of the company. Needless to say, presidency will be taken over by the Mendoza!" Mr. Mendoza said, business-like.
"Anoooo poooohhh? E paano po si Sir Richard, Sr.?" Maine said
"He don't have a choice but to step down and give you full reign on the company...!" Mr. Mendoza said.
"Tatay, are you sure about this? I mean, I can function as one of the executives but am I capable of being the president? Can you not be the president?" Maine said, adamant about the ongoings...
"You are not a Mendoza for nothing. This is what you have studied and this is what you are made of!" Mr. Mendoza said to Maine.
"But Tatay... I'm still young to handle this big responsibility! I am not sure if I am capable of this as of the moment. I still have a lot to learn." Maine said.
"Then we will pursue to your grandparents plan of marrying you to a Faulkerson!" Mr. Mendoza said, poker face.
"Ano pooooo???!!! Me marrying a Faulkerson heir? " Maine said, flabbergasted, eyes almost bulging out!
"Tatay, what are you talking about? What marriage?" Maine said.
"We don't have any idea regarding this before... However a document was produced that their was an internal agreement that if in case a Mendoza will take over the company, a Faulkerson heir should be arranged to be his/her better half. The document was produced upon signing the buy-out agreement... And apparently we cannot take it back. So we talked it down with Richard Sr., and the lawyer, and agreed that this will not be carried over if/when you were able to pullout this company from the gutter. At least a 10% growth will suffice!" Mr. Mendoza said.
"Tatay... !" Maine said but still thinking of this dilemma. She is trying to check for the loopholes.
"Maine, I challenge you to take this. I want you to prove yourself worthy of my surname. Take over and drive this company up and I will be proud of you...!" Mr. Mendoza said.
Nasaling ang pride at mga insecurities niya, plus she felt she wants to rebel...
"I take this on, Tatay! But you can never marry me off just because of the business...!" Maine said, sadness in her eyes.
Mr. Mendoza turn his back on her daughter and walked out, however before reaching the for of the study...
"Be ready, on Monday, you will be introduced to your supposed to be fiancée. This will go about for year after your evaluation!" He said and walked out without waiting for her reply. And that was her second shocker of the day!
